Air cleaner issue

1 Attachment(s)
So I have a double pumper on my 427 in my 68, original quadrajet was junk and too lean so I replaced it with this and it runs absolutely great. I'm sure many people have done this and know the factory style air cleaner with the flame arrestor and breather hits the secondary pump arm. Question is does anyone know an air cleaner that will work? I'm not a fan of the 67 l88 air cleaner without the tube. Also, aftermarket Gm ones will hit my hood because they don't drop enough and I have a stock ss hood with ice cube trays. Any help would be appreciated thank you in advance!

When you say aftermarket GM are you referring to this one?

The L88 non breather base will work with the open element chrome lid.

I'm referring the chrome Gm performance one you could get at every swap meet that comes with the bow tie nut, I may just get the base as Jason suggested or use a flyeye. I liked having the flame arrestor though. Thanks for the help

The later GM style cowl induction air cleaner that has a vent pipe with two 45's instead of a single 90 will work with a double pumper. Finding that style loose might be a chore, but I think it would fix the problem if you grafted it to your existing base.

I run the reproduction open element air cleaner on the Chevelle with a double pumper. I cut the two tiny spot welds holding the breather elbow into the base and removed the elbow, then plugged the hole in the base with a rubber body plug.

I think that'd be perfect

Look for the base that uses the 90* fitting in the valve cover and a straight rubber tube. It comes on the 69 cowl hood base and I believe the 66 vette 427/425.

In the past I flattened out the tube to clear the 50cc rear pump.

I've done this too and it works great.

I think I have the base you need. I can check it on a Holley Double pumper if you still need it.
