68 Camaro L78

This car is a personal friend of mine here in AZ. He has owned it since 1972. It is a monster running of a car and looks extremely sharp. Any questions feel free to ask me. Up front, it is not a concourse queen car - but done very nicely with attention to the details. Sounds so bad it is music to listen too. Price at the bottom of the ad:

Pics coming and a link to photo album to be provided:

1968 L78 Camaro - in his words below.

I purchased the Camaro from KAP Inc (with some help from my Dad) they were the Buick/Oldsmobile/GMC in Park River, ND in April of 1972 while still a senior in high school.

When I purchased the car in the spring of 1972 the original L-78 engine was gone and had been replaced with a replacement 396 and that engine was subsequently sold and a new LS-6 complete engine assembly purchased from Larson Chevrolet Parts Department in the late 70’s while the car was undergoing it’s initial restoration.

The car was originally Cordovan Maroon with a black vinyl interior. I originally had the car painted black in 1973 (a photo of the car in black taken at the dragstrip in 1975 ). When I restored the car in 1980 I went back to the maroon color but found out that I simply did like the color any better than the first time around so when I redid the car this past year time I went back to black.

Replacement Parts/Components
· Firestone F70x14 Redline Stripe Radial Tires - Coker Tires

· Black & White Hounds Tooth Seat Covers, Seat Buns, Carpet- Legendary Auto Interiors

· 454 CID, LS-6, 512 Block, Complete GM Parts Dept Crate Motor with some additional work such as balancing/blueprinting done by Adams Automotive of Grand Forks ND. An L88 flywheel, pressure plate and clutch disc from GM/Chevy parts was also installed at this time. At that time Chevy offered the lightweight L88 style flywheel to work with the LS-6/LS-7's. I felt this was the best heavy duty street/strip clutch assembly for these cars available at the time.

4:10 rear gears when the car was restored in the late 70’s using all GM parts. Note: the cars original BT code 12 bolt w/3:55 rear housing is still in the car. The carrier was changed to a 4 series carrier when I first installed 4:56 gears in the car back in the mid 70's with all Chevrolet/GM replacement parts. It currently has GM 4:10 gears

· The M21 4 speed transmission (not orig to the car) was also completely rebuilt at that time using GM replacement parts where needed. Note: the cars original Muncie shifter handle is still in the car, but the linkage was replaced back in the 70's with a Hurst Competition Plus. I removed the stock shifter handle from the original linkage, reworked it to fit both the Hurst linkage and stock factory console. As this involved heating and bending the shift handle I re-heat treated it and had it replated. It fits and looks like a stock shifter but works like a proper Hurst.

Refreshed or NOS Replacement Parts/Components: Listing just a few Primary items:

· Baldwin Motion (very old purchase - not sure if original or early repo) Fiberglass Stinger Hood and Correct Fiberglass Hood Springs Note: a replacement 67 Corvette hood scoop bezel was added to this hood by me. In addition I added the 68 Chevy SS 427 emblems to the hood scoop and one on the rear decklid. Countless hours were spent massaging this hood for fit and finish.
· Original and NOS Sheet Metal (nos qtrs and fenders in the 80”s), Original Exterior Trim/Chrome, Bumpers, Grill refinished.
· Original Dash Pad/Gauges (has NEVER been removed from the car)
· Original Door Panels, Kick Panels, Headliner, Dog Dish hubcaps, side window glass. (replacement front and rear glass)
· NOS Weatherstrip: Doors, Trunk, Original Window Fuzzies, package tray, trunk mat.
· Power brake booster rebuilt and replated by Brake Booster’s Inc.

The car was refinished with PPG Concept 9300 factory pack single stage black urethane. PPG products were used throughout the refinish process

Here is a list of the options on the car as it is now.

Eddie assures me this Camaro is a real thumper! Nice color scheme!

This is one bad ass camaro - the motor is a monster and with the light weight flywheel, the throttle response is amazing. Fit and finish second to none. The tires are for the vintage look, however it needs some meat in the back as the car smokes these tires in any gear.

Look it over, ask questions, he wants to sell the car!

Thank you for the comments - it is a stunning looking car with a NO BS performance.

Having just finished it - he is looking to move back to the mid west and the car to find a good home.

Thank you again.....

Locker537 01-17-2019 05:28 PM

Truly gorgeous car. I'm interested in seeing what it hammers for.

enio45 01-29-2019 01:38 PM

The car did not meet the reserve - so it it still for sale.

Potentially, if still available in another 30 days we will commit it to Mecum who will be doing
its first phoenix auction in mid march.

However, the car is available and will entertain offers for the car in the mean time.

No need to repost the price as offers will be considered as stated earlier - he wants to sell the car.

Depending on the offer/price accepted - we can possibility do the delivery of the car.

Thanks again for the ad space and all the positive comments.

I love this car I would have to stick some cragers and some slick on the back though!!!

William 01-29-2019 05:44 PM

We saw the car at Russo-Steele. Owner is a great guy; it is simply time to move on.

The photos don't do it justice-it is awesome in person!

enio45 01-29-2019 05:48 PM

Sean, yes that is exactly what you should do!! BUY it and put cragers on it!!!

Thanks William for the compliment.

PRICE UPDATE

Update from the owner - new asking price is 65K!!!!!!!!!!

enio45 02-20-2019 01:33 PM

Consigning to Mecum, for the Phoenix event in 3 weeks......

enio45 03-19-2019 12:44 AM

Well, did the mecum thing, and the high bid was 50K - real money and my friend wanted more dollars......

so if anyone is interested, offers north of 55K would be entertained.

I surprised at this cycle of events - as the car is stunning.

It must be that the market is looking at this - as a built car, not as an orig L78 car with modifications and not original drive train.

Anyhow, if there is any interest - let me know - if not he will take it off the market until later in the yr.

thanks for looking!

enio45 04-10-2019 03:00 AM

Car is sold.....thanks for all the interest.
