Vinyl pillar post covers?

Friend of mine came across some of these and he wasnt sure what years used vinyl covered ones. He wasnt sure if chevelles or GTOs used vinyl, he thought they were metal? Trying to figure out what he has
Thanks guys

'68-late '69 for chevelles, can't comment on the rest of the gm lineup. I've got a June built '69 that hasn't been on the road since '74 with the metal versions.

Converts used vinyl/padded pillar post covers across the board I believe....at least 68 or 69 - 72 Abody converts.

Things to look for are bubbling up of the vinyl covering (more common on southern/western cars I think due to heat). There is a metal inner support piece....can get crusty/soft from rust.

Lower "flat" pointed area (where the cover sits on top of the upper dash metal)...this can get warped (again probably more prevalent on hot area cars). Also.....look for hairline cracks in the vinyl covering...can be "repaired" to hide somewhat before painting.

Thanks guys, Hi Patton
Friend got a hold of these, might be more than one set, and he wasnt sure what they were off of. He has a 68 442 and had 69s. The guy they came from had like 71 and 72 cutlasses.

Hello back at 'ya Bill.

Definitely used on '70-72 Olds Cutlass/442 converts and Buicks.....likely on Chevy and Pontiac converts of the same vintage.

Nice originals are in demand. They are repro'd but as you probably already know, lots of repro parts are lacking in one or more details. I'm not 100% sure but I think the repros may not have the inner steel structure (would add a lot to the production cost) and may be the typical repro molded urethane one piece type deal...there may be other differences as well. Originals are vinyl covering a foam inner layer (and the steel inner core piece).

They can be painted as well so whatever color they are shouldn't be a hindrance to a knowledgeable buyer.

I had a pair of used originals in a green color from a '71 Cutlass convert and they were far from perfect (had some bubbling up/lifting of the vinyl covering)....had multiple people wanting them. Forget my asking price but it wasn't a lot since mine had some defects but a nice pair should bring good money.

Bill
Let me know what you have, I am looking for Jade Green for 1971 or Black for another 71 442.

Hey Bill, This may help....or not lol

Dad's 69 GTO here he bought new has vinyl covered A-pillars, hardtop car.

My 72 SS chevelle, also a hardtop, has painted steel A-pillars.

Heres one set he has. He said another set is a bit shorter.
Any opinions on what they are from?
