66 Impala SS 427 Convert - Driving/ Track Impression July 1965
 

Bob D'Olivo took an enormous collection of photos of this pre-release 66 SS Impala convert. The L36 427-390hp was not the top engine option, but had an abundance amount of torque to accelerate the car in any situation required.


Love the details glommed from these back in the day test reports & Pics. Petersen publishing was on top of their game and very influential.

I was the Car Craft tech editor for a couple years out of college. Gray Baskerville (RIP) brought me down to the Petersen photo archive for a Nailhead story I was putting together. WOW...I spent seven straight hours there searching through pics. There was SO much amazing stuff there, wish I’d had the appreciation then that I have now.

Interesting to see white spray on the trim tag as seen on 67 and a few early 68 Camaros.

----I'll be the 1st to admit I haven't looked under the hood of many 66 full size Chevy's, But the engine picture shows a brake booster that looks very un-GM looking. Is it production line correct?......Bill S

GM accessory power brake conversion kits had boosters made by Bendix. That is what that looks like to me.

Could be this car was used by Engineering to develop the kit for this application.

That is one of the two correct boosters.
