1968 ss396 l78?

Saw this on eBay. Seems reasonable but something just doesn't seem right.

A Question but what’s the general understanding of all these REGISTRY cars that seem to pop up for sale these days?

ie. The car is listed in the XYZ National Registry...

Is it to make a potential buyer THINK the vehicle was formally seen and authenticated as an LS-6 or L-78 or whatever Registry it’s listed in?

It’s not my understanding that is what’s occurred but I think many believe this is a stamp of said car being LEGIT.

thoughts?

So i am picking up correctly no engine and trans included?

From the eBay ad: " RACED SUPER STOCK CLASS DAY 2 TO NHRA STANDARDS AND THEN STORED. STARTED REGULARY AND MOVED TO KEEP ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION AND REAR AXLE AND BRAKE SYSTEM IN GOOD WORKING ORDER."

So I would assume that this is a running, driving vehicle. Interesting to see the yellowed armrest bases with the rest of the interior soft trim appearing pristine.

Mike,

My thoughts are that many sellers try to use such 'Registry Listings' as a representation of legitimacy, as you have postulated. A savvy buyer takes such things with a grain of salt, as not all 'Registries' are created equal.

thanks Bill...i missed that in all the CAPS!

i did notice this verbiage on 2d read:
RETAINS AUTHENTIC GOOD RUNNING L78 375HP ENGINE WITH EXCELLENT OIL PRESSURE WHEN STARTED (VERY POWERFUL) AUTHENTIC GM BLOCK STAMPING WITH GENUINE BROACH MARKS (NOT A RESTAMP)

looks like it sold just the same hope the new owner enjoys!

Just sold for $38,000.00,VIN 138378B174867.

Previous eBay listing says the engine was NOT the original, and original 4 speed trans had been replaced by a T400, so I'd say the most recent seller was being pretty disingenuous. It was a dealer, so imagine that :rolleyes2:
