A friend has this PF25 oil filter, WIW? Is this like the one that sold on EBay for 1,500 bucks recently?

Have a photo of the bottom? That will help.

I don't have a photo but it is smooth and doesn't have the letters like the one on EBay.

That's the $1500 difference.

^ agreed.

That’s what I thought. Was the embossed an assembly line filter. Still yet, what’s my friends new filter worth?

In judging terms, I would call it "easily detectable".

Without sounding rude, probably about $20-25 so someone can have a filter that appears as an assembly line version.

For reference, here's an NOS version similar to yours that hasn't been painted.

Surely you don't get dinged in judging for a filter that isn't embossed.

Most car guys changed oil and filter at 500 miles. Expecting a car to have an assembly line only filter is just silly. What's next? Have to prove it has the original oil in it? Have to have original 1969 air in the tires?

I get that there are a few 100 to 1500 mile cars out there, and if someone wants to preserve one of those, that's fine.

In some judgings you don't get dinged, but I believe there are bonus points available for certain wear and assembly line only items like this. So now instead of 5000 points for a "perfect" car, you can get 5000+ points. So, in a way you get dinged I suppose. Another example is assembly line AC spark plugs only had a single, thin green ring where replacements had 4 thin rings. I call these "lunchbox" parts as the only way to get them was when they went out the assembly plants door in somebody's lunchbox. Legends judges correct me if I am wrong here.
