Significant 69 Camaros needed.
I have been asked to help find some cars. The Good-Guys want to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 69 Camaro by featuring 100 special 69 Camaros at the Good-Guys Nationals in Columbus Ohio July-12-14. All 100 will be parked inside in one room. Yes there will be LS powered 69’s there. Yes there will be Yenko’s there. If accepted, the entry for your car will be free. Good-Guys will make up display signs for each car. Email [email protected] and let her know you are interested in the 69 Camaro display at Columbus. Your submission won’t guarantee it to be accepted as they are limiting to 100 but if you do get in it should be pretty neat.

Interesting. Big show and big buildings at the Ohio State Fairgrounds - This is going to be good.
|
That place can be nuts, muscle car and hot rod overload ::biggthumpup:

100 should be doable......I assume no LS Builds allowed, LOL.

If they make that a theme throughout the Goodguys events, I'll be at Scottsdale with mine in March, and possibly November.
|
Sounds like a fun idea. I'm just getting ready to finish off my Z28 and plan to have it complete and ready to fire up on it's birthday in May. That'll be 50 years from the day it was shipped from Norwood, and will be the first time I start it after the frame off.
Is it going to be all factory originals for that show? It would be really cool if it was all original cars with that many of them there on display. |
I would be interested in taking my Z. Sent you a pm Charlie

Would be awesome to put my Garnet Red RS/SS L78/M22 convertible in that display!
Columbus, Ohio is 1,900 miles, so I’ll keep it in mind. |
That is sure to be a cool display!

Black Z's are pretty rare. I would offer up mine, but I think Lloyd's Black RS Z would be more appropriate. Mine is not an RS.

I would bet they could find room for 2 black 69's  |

Sweet car! |
I'll throw my hat in the ring with the 'Bumblebee COPO'. It would be fun bringing it back to its original stomping grounds...sold new just outside Columbus.
|
Ok, now I have to go for sure.

So is a 69 RS/Z that is originally from the Columbus area a candidate? Just a nice driver, 5 footer, not a restored show car. It does have pretty much all original parts save for the smog equipment. Is there a website with info for this show?

Their goal is to have 100 69 Camaro's inside on display. They will select from applicants to fill the room with the best cars. I have no idea how many have applied so not sure of your chances.

History in the making in Ohio starting this weekend!
https://www.good-guys.com/summerof69 The summer of 69 display is now forming up in the Kasich hall at the Ohio State fair grounds. Charley, a big thank you for getting the word out and getting some killer cars to attend. This will be first ever display honoring the entire extended 1969 production of the Camaro. Along with the cars on display on hand will be 6 Norwood assembly supervisors and workers. These are the guys who managed and worked the assembly lines at Chevrolet and Fisher Body 50 years ago. |
There will be 125 inside and another 60 outside.
|
I am looking forward to seeing this display, should be awesome!
|
I got to see a few today and an amazing selection. Will be fun to look them over tomorrow
|
Will be there Friday with Grady, Chick, and Skip. Looking forward to seeing your burgundy Z28 Bill

See you guys there tomorrow. Phil W.

Ok here is the back story. The book research yielded what I call the "X" files. These are stories that I confirmed and are off color or are a bit uncomfortable to tell-- but true none the less. The Moonshine connection to Norwood goes back to the need to control contraband introduced to the workplace by employees. The cushion room is where the seat assemblies were built and is the element that the women largely gravitated to when seniority factored in. In the early 1960's a rift developed between the guards and the women on the line as the women were accusing the guards of harassment due to the very public searches performed of the women's person hygiene materials all in front of other male employees. The union made this practice a bargaining issue and got GM to agree that if women identified and announced that an item or package was for "personal hygiene" a further search was prohibited. Listerine mouthwash was technically for "personal hygiene" and Moonshine had a neutral odor so for employees that needed a drink the cushionroom became the speakeasy of the plant. Bottles of Listerine everyplace there all filled with moonshine or corn Whiskey The selection years later of Snuffy Smith as the plant mascot by the GMAD management team was an basic acknowledgement that little could be done to control alcohol consumption on the assembly line. So there you go -- the tradition is to drink Moonshine as a homage to the employees of the plant lives on today. |
All the while complaining that MANAGEMENT was the problem!
|
Corporate GREED closed Norwood in my opinion. Without union jobs there would be no middle class. Norwood was a GM icon, just my opinion.

I think there is plenty of blame to go around Bugsy. What I know for sure is that there were many really good people busting there tails - both salary and hourly. I hate to hear stories glorifying the 10% that were screw ups. I worked hourly and salary - so I saw many labor fakers on both sides.

Charley,
That is an interesting dealer emblem on the rear of your car.. what is the story on it? |

I can't find a pic of the emblem but Stielow had it 3D printed out of Stainless to mimic a old emblem. Did find a cool pic of when he was giving it the car a good shakedown.
