Barrett Jackson Description

This gorgeous 1969 Shelby GT500 Fastback serial #837 is very authentic and one of only 1157 built. This California “Black Plate” car was the product of a show quality restoration. It retains its original Ford VIN tag, door data plate tag and Shelby tag. As the original Ford Invoice and Deluxe Marti report are both included and indicate this vehicle was built on February 7th, 1969. It was ordered with a Candyapple Red painted exterior, Black Clarion Knit/Corinthian Vinyl Hi-Back bucket seats interior, four-speed close ratio manual transmission, optional 3:50 axle ratio, traction –lok differential, visibility group, Goodyear brand name tires, sport deck rear seat, power front disc brakes, power steering and AM radio and deluxe belts warning light. It was shipped to S C Motors in San Francisco, CA. According to the SAAC Shelby registry a freight bill dated March 8th, 1969 from The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company identified this car as one of 15 Shelbys shipped Ionia, MI via C&O Belfast N&W Kansas City ATSF through Pico Rivera, CA via Hadley Auto Transport to dealerships. As the SAAC Shelby Registry indicates, previous owners were both from California in 1994. The original California “Black Plate” #ZJG425 and copy of California title dated 1994 with matching plate number are both included. This Shelby remained in California until 2007. As the SAAC Shelby Registry indicates it was listed for sale on the SAAC forum in PA October 2009 with 88,762 miles. In 2010, it was purchased by a gentleman in Pennsylvania which is documented with a copy of a title that is included. This gentleman performed a rotisserie restoration over the next several years. Once it was completed he sold it to a gentleman in Rhode Island who owned the car until November of 2021. Since completion this vehicle has been kept in a private collection with limited exposure. Since the vehicle spent most of its life in California it had a rust-free body prior to the restoration. The body is very straight with excellent gaps lines throughout. It was finished in its original color of Candyapple Red paint with Gold GT500 side stripes. The paint is high quality and looks beautiful. All of the Car-Lite stamped glass is original and in very nice condition. The Shelby 15” 5-spoke mag wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Polyglas GT F60-15 tires. The Black Clarion Knit/Corinthian interior is mostly original and in really nice condition especially considering its age. From the information gathered the only item that’s been replaced is the dash pad. The trunk compartment was nicely restored with a correct style trunk mat, spare tire and tools. The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. Although the lower cowl area was refinished it was intentionally left rough like it was prior to restoration. The car is powered by a 428 CJ V8 engine that was factory rated with 335hp and 440 lb-ft. The engine was completely rebuilt and runs excellent. Photos of the engine out of the car with all numbers are included. Some correct features include the smog setup, factory stickers, factory stamps and an Autolite battery. The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers 4-speed close ratio manual transmission which was completely rebuilt and shifts excellent. The power is transferred to the original rebuilt traction-lok differential with 3.50 gear ratio. The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. The underside of the body was painted in the factory correct red oxide. All of the parts have the factory correct paint markings. The power steering system, suspension components and braking system was all restored or replaced. This Shelby is the real deal. The owner’s manual, SAAC Shelby Registry 1968-1969-1970 4th Edition book and car cover are included. This vehicle has recently been serviced and detailed which is documented with an invoice that is included. From the MS CLASSIC CARS collection.

Love the look and uniqueness of the 69 & 70 Shelby. GLWA

TimG 12-06-2021 06:16 PM

I do, also. I think these are stunning cars.

msclassiccars 12-06-2021 06:19 PM

Thank you both for the positive comments.

This is our first '69 GT500 and yes, they definitely stand out among the other Shelby cars and Mustangs of this vintage.

I'm excited to see how this car does, it's a gorgeous example!

I remember back in the day, the 69 and 70 shelbys were shunned and i too thought they looked too long. But today.. oh boy they are my favorite year Shelbys

Thank you! It truly is an absolutely stunning example inside and out. Especially when you take into consideration that most of the interior seems to be original to the car.

You are correct about them playing second fiddle to the earlier cars some time ago, but we think they are beginning to receive the appreciation they deserve!
