1970-72 Chevelle restoration book

Dale McIntosh and I have worked on this book for over a year and a half and it is finally available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble as well as other vendors. This was not written for the well seasoned restorer but rather the guy using his own tools and on a budget and it spells out many of the step by step methods to performing a restoration from beginning to end in your home shop.

Jamie Cooper from Super Car Restorations wrote the chapter on body and paint. He too tried to cover as much as he can for the do it yourself bodymen that are out there doing their own work and again on a budget. He goes in depth on how it needs to be done while at the same time not scaring them from taking on their own project.

The book is 240 pages long with 9 chapters covering most all facets of a restoration from searching for a restoration candidate to listing many codes, colors, inspection marks, etc and includes over 600 high definition color photographs as well. There is an estimated 110,000 plus words in the book. I averaged about 1 hour per 100 words/photos/captions, or basically about the same amount of time it takes me to complete a full concours restoration so you can understand how time consuming this venture was. Suffice to say, I will never do it again. ;)

Much thanks go to Dale and Annie for putting up with me while trying to run a business and inspecting cars all over the country. Some deadlines were not met both with the publisher and our customers and Dale wrote far more of the book than was originally agreed upon so I cannot say enough for their help and understanding. Annie proof read every word of the book multiple times and helped me with a lot as a photographer together while trying to help me keep everything together and run the office.

I would also like to thank all of those who donated photos or other information. Hopefully I remembered all of them in the Acknowledgments section.

For those of you doing your own restoration, be it a complete car or parts thereof at your home shop, we hope this will add just a bit more help and understanding to your project.

Enjoy.
Rick

I’m gonna have to pick up a copy Rick. It will probably cut down on the number of times I reach out to you for advice!
