1974 Roadrunner Runner GTX

2 Attachment(s)
Trying to locate a 1974 Roadrunner GTX 440 6 pack. My uncle was the original owner. Last known whereabouts were in the Bellevue and Ralston, Nebraska area in the 80's. Car was green with white interior and stripes. We're trying to locate a VIN with some luck. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Was it a Roadrunner or a GTX?

I **think** from 72 on, the GTX was an option package on the Roadrunner, no longer its own separate model. I also think that the 74 that is the subject here would have had the six pack added Day-2 style....don't believe it was a factory option.

In 74 it was the Roadrunner and the GTX was an option package. They only made 79 with the 440 and 6 pack option.

I have always heard that there were - literally - a handful of 72's made very early in the model year with the 440-6 option, only because there were a few left over from 71 production....after that, the factory 440-6 was no more. Where did you get the 79 number?

This is not correct on several levels:

- The Six Pack (properly <span style="font-style: italic">Six Barrel</span> for Plymouth) was discontinued very early in the 1972 model year.

- The number &quot;79&quot; has been floating around for years but the correct number is 386 U.S.-spec cars.

Otherwise, the GTX was discontinued for 1972, but order a 440 for the Road Runner and you'd receive GTX badges. This Road Runner/GTX continued through 1974.

I have seen, in person 2 72 V code Chargers..they where both red and both had hide-a-ways..Ron at R&amp;R in Aurora Missouri had one, and i stumbled onto the other in Arkansas...

both V code in the VIN both documented, both had fender tags

story that follows them is they where built on first few days of production and the option was cancelled..thats the accepted story and most agree....and those where the last 6 Pack cars mopar made...

also at Rons was 6 pack 70 FURY.....V code there too.

Years ago there was a brown 74 RR in one of the mags with a V engine code. It was sitting in some sort of junkyard with no drivetrain and no fender tag. Probably a mistake on the tag, but it had some curious components on it as I recall, which is why it was in the mag. Can't remember if it was MCR or Mopar Muscle. I'd bet 442w30 will remember it.

Mike's 1972 Top Banana Charger Rallye at the '85 Mopar Nationals- factory V CODE 440 Six Pack. Last I heard, his son still owned the car.

No multi-carb Mopars after first few months '72 model year... HOWEVER I believe Ron at R&amp;R had a factory mistake 1974 Roadrunner with a V code stamped where the U was supposed to be...article on it in an old MCR I have here somewhere. Fun factory screw-up.

you have to wonder, what would Ron had put together if he hadnt passed away..his goal was 1 of every hemi and 6 pack made...plus everything else..he had a 426 stage III wedge powered swept line 1/2 ton PU too..that thing was nuts..it was a tow vehicle...ooof im rambling...

i had been buying parts and cars from him for a time, and then, he was gone..I worked with his wife Cathy ad bought some big lots of parts from her..a curious yellow 71 barracuda convertible, and a few other really nice rust free cars from her...she was so overwhelmed..and was just done with it..i spent many many weekends there..i miss it and them greatly

I was shocked to see a hemi car i found in 1987 there...it was RWB satellite that was a back up car for Sox and Martin..but no solid proof..i was buying a 67 GTO ragtop and found the car south of St Louis..and could pout the deal together..blew my mind that Ron had the car 2 decades later..a real shame the collection got busted up....it was an impressive place to be..never gonna be a place like that ever again..thats for sure
