'67 Mustang Fastback Project, "Special Purpose Vehicle"

According to the Marti report, this car was ordered as a Special Purpose Vehicle...would this imply a car destined for media use? In any case its current condition is pretty far from its original trim...currently has a 390-6bbl/4-sp but was originally a 289 with a C4.

A little late on the build date to be a media use vehicle. Also kinda late for a dealer demo all loaded up like that. You'd think it would have an earlier build date (beginning of production) for media use or dealer demo.

From a GM perspective - a vehicle assigned to headquarters or some other internal discipline could be anything: pool vehicle use, to replace another vehicle that had been expensed, or just to have around with that option content for general development.

It would be hard (or impossible) to say at this point.

Lots of good parts missing that are not easily found.

+Interior Decor Group is gone (seats and all associate trim, dash bezel, no pic or mention but overhead console should be there as it’s part of the package)

+Convenience Group is MIA as is the optional lower center console and this is a biggie on the 1967s. That group has four courtesy lights for Door Ajar, Seat Belts, Low Fuel, and Parking Brake. This car has A/C which puts them in the console (rare) rather than on the panel that is occupied by the center vents. Extremely rare to find and not cheap to replace and hopefully the harness is still there behind the dash and in the doors. This group was more common on Cougars than Mustangs.

+Deluxe wheel missing

+AM/FM radio missing

Ford’s description of Special Purpose Vehicle doesn’t mean much since it could mean an exec’s wife ordered it, dealer give-a-way, or some other Ford promotion. Neat, but not overly enticing unless it had some sort of weird options but this one doesn’t. All standard stuff. It’s too late in the 67 year to be any kind of a demonstrator for the 1968 year, and with that, those are usually bucked on July 4th (a dead give-a-way). A note too is the DSO which is Ford’s plant in Dearborn and in particular, it’s Transportation Office which also screams “Corporate Demo” meaning, just something the execs drove around in, aka, company car. Again, neat, but nothing of note to drive the car into the stratosphere.

Despite that……I like it!!!!!:biggthumpup::3gears:

Cheers
Dave
