BB Intake Fittings...
1 Attachment(s)
Helping a local car buddy with some 'under the hood' updates. He is freshening up the engine bay on his 69 Chevelle 396. Engine is out of the car to be painted...intake fittings need to be replaced. He got both of them out.
The one appears to be a press fit ?? where can he get a replacement and how is the install done?? Cast iron intake for a QJ. thanks, wilma |
You can but the Reproduction fittings at just about any muscle car parts place.....try SS396.com.
Your going to need a torch to get that of out....did you or Gino damage this one trying to get it out? It’s been in there for 50 plus years.....it still may be ok.....to use, looks like there is still enough meat to the nipple fitting. Just replace the threaded one. Dan |

He has taken them both out...he heated them up and they came out ok.
So, what is the process to re-install the non-threaded nipple?? |
GM pressed them In....you obviously do not have a press big enough. Plus today’s repop nipples are not made exactly the same or correct as what you just removed. To save you a lot of time and aggravation....take the new nipple and intake to machine shop and have them press it in for you.

I would say start by putting the fitting in the deep freeze for 3 or 4 hours then heat the manifold up until water bubbles off. Put some light lube on the fitting and grab the fitting with a pair of vice grips with a light touch. Protect the fitting from the vice grips with some old gasket material. wiggle the fitting down, have a small block of wood and a hammer handy in case you have to gently tap it down
