Legendary Fiddler, Byron Berline passes at 77
I met and spoke with Byron multiple times since Sherri and I moved to Guthrie. We attended several of his concerts held regularly here in this small town of just 10,000. He charged a whopping $10 a head. During intermission, you got a piece of home made pie (while it lasted) for a dollar. It was liking being in Mayberry.
I cried when his fiddle shop burned down. Just a parking lot now. But he relocated just down the street. Funeral is today. What a talent. What a gentleman. What an all around good guy. Very humble too. Had a Gold Record on the wall for his instrumental work on "What a Fool Believes", but you would never know from his demeanor. Second link may not open. Sorry to read this. 77 is waaaay too young. It isn't all that far away for many of us.
