Buck 503 Prince with four diamonds (stones at least)

OK, this should be my last oddball questions for the week.
In the same lot of stuff I acquired the oddball Craftsman ratchet, there were a couple of nice little pocket knives with locking blades; one is a Gerber, the other a Buck 503 Prince with Rosewood. The Buck knife has (or had.... two fell out) stones that look like diamonds imbedded into the metal ends. I cannot find anything like this on the web. You can see where little holes were drilled, stones inserted and then four stake marks to set the stone. Have a hard time believing someone would do that with real diamonds. One off? |

That has to be a one-off owner-made modification. I've never see n that before.
I still have the Buck I carried all through high school. It's a slightly smaller version of the 503, I think. Here it is. I think I bought it in 1978? |
Looks like cubic zirconium

Probably is. Just seems like a lot of trouble for a pocket knife.
