1970 Cyclone Spoiler SCJ
I couldn't post this in the 'ads seen' section, but I wanted to share something i found on Hemmings. '70 Cyclone Spoiler with the drag pack in competition blue with a white vinyl top. It's a combo I've never seen, but I like it. I'm a sucker for Mercurys anyway.

Looks nice. Isn't that red light under the dash for a line lock? I didn't see the rest of it anywhere.
|
Clean car!! Love the gauges all the way into the passenger compartment.

The 429/460 engines looks so much bigger when they are in a small engine compartment.

Neither did we  ....but seriously, I get why you got this car. Lot of car for the money with an awesome drivetrain. Those Merc front ends just look like freight train wrt to girth. Congrats Charley - Enjoy.
P.S. we will al be anxiously waiting for your traditional driveway burnout!! :burnout: |
Charley,
If you want to get rid if those dingy aluminum valve covers, I'd be happy to take them off your hands to put them on Grampa's Hot Rod Lincoln. ;-) |
Thanks Goerrnie28...ruined my week.
|
That's awesome!! Congrats!!
Cheers Dave |
That thing's a cool weird - good score!
|

I have owned a few of these ………. they are fun to drive and FAST! Love the car Charlie.

429 SCJ is top dog = LS6
|
Charlie, are you going to find out how many had white vinyl top? That's what makes this car stand out from the others.

Then things got worse. This has been parked with the Cyclone forever and ever. I'll post it in Mopar section.
|
Looks like you're now a white vinyl top/interior/stripe guy :)

I spoke to the orig. owner today. Kinda funny as he just made a offer on a house yesterday, the address was 429 and he thought about the car. Said he would beat all the GTO's in town. They had 1/4 marked off on a local street. He also raced it at a track in Salt Lake but when he put headers on it the wouldn't let him run. He sold it to a kid in Ca. that was going to put it back stock. When he sold it to the kid it had headers, scatter shield and Cragars. Still has the scattershield. He ordered it and got it in 70, sold it in 76. He has pics but they are in storage.
|
It currently has incorrect wheels. I can either go Cragars, leave existing rims on it or try to find correct rims. Correct rims I'm told are very hard to find.
|
Magnum 500's or Cragars would look great,, IMHO, Nice Score,,

Very nice Cyclone, this car originally came with 14x7'" steel wheels with trim ring and caps. The 1970 5 slot "styled sport wheels" were an option and would be listed on the Marti report.
The Cyclone Spoilers also had trunk prop rods like the Boss 302 Mustangs that ordered with rear spoilers. Also, If they had come with the 4.30 Detroit locker, Mercury Division lists this option as "Super Drag Pack" which is kinda cool to see that on a Marti report. |
