Rest in Peace my dear friend Dave Lindsley

I am sitting here with tears in my eyes as I write this.
I found out that one of the BEST guys in the car hobby passed away, Dave Lindsley. His wife Madeline (also known as Bird) was his "everything" and Dave was her everything. It was amazing to see them together. They celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary this past November....and according to both of them, they were in love from the start. Dave taught me a lot about people and about friendships-and to value the ones that mean a lot to me and to not worry about the rest. He taught me that it's okay to express affection to a guy (Dave, I loved you like a brother!). Dave was a very humble and giving person too-I wish people could know Dave like we did. I was able to call NovaJoe, Mark Sheppard, Dan Vasic and George Lyons and Mark did me a favor and called Dana Hurt to let them know of Dave's passing. Sorry I had to call with such bad news, but it gave us time to talk and I valued that time more than you could ever know. It was nice to relive some of the stories about Dave and some of his escapades as well... Dave was VERY active in the SoCal car community-and will be deeply missed. I talked to Bird tonight and there may be a celebration of his life-but she's not sure when. Once I find out, I will let you all know Here's a fairly recent picture from the Enderle Center show...From left to right Mark Sheppard, Holly, Dave Lindsley and NovaJoe Camuglia. Till we meet again my friend... |
WOW, thanks for sharing Bruce.

Dave was one of the most respected and loved car guys that I knew. He was a role model. He was My Role Model. Honest and Caring as can Be. Integrity - 1000 %
He loved his cars and his car memorabilia....and boy did he have great cars and memorabilia. Dave was a perfectionist....Bruce and I discussed this on Saturday. When Bruce and I would found great cars for Dave....we just knew that they were never good enough for Dave. He would have to make each one of his cars live up to his standards. I loved him for that. Dave I will miss you my friend.....RIP. Bruce, thanks for reaching out to me on Saturday....It gave me time to reflect. Dan |
So sorry to hear this. May he rest in peace. Too many good people leaving us lately.
|
Sorry to hear. RIP
Buddy |
Sorry to hear about his passing. RIP

Sometimes there are no words that can fully express a person’s life. Dave was always a straight shooter with a hard outer shell and a heart of gold. Once you were his friend you were a friend for life. He was a perfectionist in his hobby and work ethic that was second to none. It is truly a shame because he was one of the good guys in the hobby.

Super sad to hear this terrable news. I have seen him for many years at local car shows. Just last year we were spending time together at a show. He kept telling me to go to his shop so we can hagout. Unfortunately I never made the time. I really wish i would of. Life is too short.

What sad news, thoughts/prayers for Dave's family and many friends. Sorry to all here who've lost your special pal, I never met him but all sounds like he was quite the guy. RIP Dave . |
Hi All, Dave's handle on this site was Z28DL. When I see Dave's wife and the time is right, I will share these remembrances with her...
Dave's posts-always positive: https://www.yenko.net/forum/search.php?searchid=1120141 |
Bruce, I’m truly sorry to hear about the loss of your good friend Dave. Reading your description of Dave, and what a remarkable friend he was, makes me want to strive to be a better friend to those in my circles. Thanks for sharing.

When Bruce called me with the news of Dave's passing I was totally shocked. He was truly a genuine, honest, "car crazy" guy. From almost the first time I met him he was always after me to sell him my car (even putting a note on my car one time that said "Will be Dave's someday")!! He said it was because of a Nova he had back in the day. What everyone is saying about his cars is so true. A perfectionist to the extreme. His cars, in my eyes, were even too nice to drive!! I never did see him drive anyone of them in "anger", so to speak.
He mentioned one time that he had never got to ride in my car. Well a few years ago, I made a point of taking him for a ride to remember!! When I "got on it", he was giggling like a little kid!! He said that was the most fun he'd had in a long time!! Glad I could accommodate you Dave! My condolences to his wife Bird and brother Marty. Rest in peace my brother................... |
So sad, I only have spoken with Dave a few times, but he was held in high esteem by everyone in the hobby. We lost a great one and he will be missed... RIP

Self-made man, that came from nothing. Competitive, driven, hard working, and honest as could be. Took care of those around him. He was '' the friend", if you were allowed only one phone call...now I'm screwed! You'll truly be missed!
Just left Bird, and the phone hasn't stopped ringing. Maybe give her a little time if you plan on calling, or stopping by- just a thought. |
Bruce, Thanks sharing these episodes on Dave and his cars. I never got to meet him but I do recall his presence on the website. Consider it a honor to have spent time on this earth as one of his close friends. You will meet again and go over old times. May his family feel the joy of his dedicated friends. RIP Dave.:flag:

Condolences to Friends and Family.

Dave was a very dear friend of mine. I'm stunned and heartbroken. :( We met many years ago when my life was in turmoil but he helped me see that nothing is forever and life will get better. He was so right!!! He initially contacted me for help authenticating his Aztec Bronze 66 SS felt to be an original Dana car. We had an instant connection well beyond a passion for these cars. Many phone calls. Many emails. Many stories..... over many years!! He once flew me out to California to authenticate his Red 66 SS L-78 and to stay the week with him and his lovely wife "BIRD" and the hospitality he showed me was unreal. Stayed at his home. My choice of cars to drive, tours of his STUFF and meeting his friends along with so much laughter. I'll never forget our time together that week. My daughter was only 6 at that time, but he and Bird never stopped checking in on her .... She's 22 now!! A True Gentleman. A True Car Addict. A True Friend. He never stopped reminding me that Life is Short and to Enjoy everything!! I'm a better man for having known him. I will miss you my former Pennsylvania buddy but I'll never forget you. Sigh ~

Like with many who have already commented, Dave was a good friend of mine. I met him 22 years ago and remember wrenching on the BB Chevy engine he was preparing for his Forest Green 69 Camaro in his garage. I learned so much from Dave and miss him dearly. Praying for Bird, Marty and family. Mark

So sorry to hear of Dave's passing. I don't believe our paths had ever crossed, but sounds like he brought a lot of fun and happiness. My condolences to family and friends.
|
I met Dave about a year ago at a local event in my area in Tustin Ca, he was driving his Black Nova, it is beautiful. He was gracious, engaging and a real gentleman … May he rest in peace.
|
Praying for Dave's family and friends. I thank God for His mercy and grace. None of us deserve it, but I am thankful for the free gift of salvation. May God comfort the family and bring peace into their lives. God bless the folks on this site.

For the Southern California folks-and anyone else that wants to make the drive-please come help us celebrate the life of a wonderful and caring person, Dave Lindsley.
Please bring your collector car-I am getting more info as to what time you should show up with your collector car...and will post that info here. I hope to see a bunch of my friends there :) |
I will be there. With the Silver Z.
|
Thanks for the information Bruce. Will try to get the car up and running by then. In the process of changing out the gas tank right now!! But either way, I'll be there!!
|
Dave would always get me motivated-one last time. I'll dig out the Goat, dump the 13 yr old gas, and throw something on for wheels and tires. See you guys there.
|
Terrible news ... The car culture definitely has a hole in it now where Dave once stood. I had only met Dave one time when I was invited down to see the Desert Rat when Dana had it at Daves. I was blown away at the hospitality as well as just the few cars he had there. He insisted we come back and hang out and I just never got the opportunity. He had some of the highest caliber cars and yet to him they were just cars... Go ahead sit in it ... go ahead start it up was his mentality .. If we couldn't share our love for these cars then why own them was his mentality .. An absolute loss and we are all better for knowing him even if it was just a chance meeting .. R.I.P buddy leave a cloud of smoke when you go

Looking forward to it, Jim! |
Sorry to hear this Bruce. Knowing you I'll bet Dave was a great guy.

To everyone who has so graciously offered their condolences and kind words for Dave, we wanted each of you to know how much it means to his family. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
To those of you who knew Dave and called him a friend, I want you to know that you touched his life as much as much as he touched yours. He spoke often and highly of the friends he made on the Supercar Registry. Here's a link to the website I built for Dave several years ago. It's a little outdated, but it shows just how much he loved the cars. Enjoy- http://www.dlmusclecars.com/ BTW- You might want to check out the credits page. You'll probably be surprised to see a couple of names you recognize...;) Thank you, Marty Lindsley |
Marty, thank you for the kind words. And thank you for creating that website!! Well done!! That is love right there. Please accept my condolences. I will be there on April 6th, with or without the Nova. God bless you all.
Joe |
Marty,
Thanks for sharing your comments. Dave will forever be in my heart....I have many fond memories of Dave. He was one of a kind. Dan |
Thank you for posting that Marty-I was going to..but you beat me to it!
Also Marty did a You tube video of Dave's 66 L-78, too |

Thanks Bill...he was a true car guy and a great friend! |
Thank you Marty. For helping those who didn't know Dave, get a glimpse of his passion. It is still difficult to wrap my head around this one.
