69 COPO Camaro Restoration Info
 

I am early in the process of restoring a 69 COPO Camaro and have a couple of questions someone here can probably help clear up.
In the drivers side trunk/wheelwell area I have some holes which appear to have been spot welds at one time but were ripped out of the metal. The do not appear to have been drilled. They are located just above the drivers side trunk body plug. Does anyone know of anything the would have been originally mounted in that area? I am in the process of welding up non original holes from previous owners and don't want to fill in something that is supposed to be there.
Second question, same area, fame rail, two square blocks of metal are welded there. I believe one is for mounting exhaust, but I don't know about the one just to the left of it. Does anyone know if the square of metal to the left side is supposed to be there?
I will try to post pictures, but this is my first post so I will see if I can figure it out.
FYI, the yellow you see on the car bottom was put there by the original owner. He said they scraped off all the undercoating and seam sealer they could find one weekend and saved themselves 80 pounds at the drag strip. He said it was painted with yellow refrigerator paint to keep it from rusting.

The ripped out holes would be where the hanger for the transverse muffler was welded to the trunk pan. The rectangular plate on the side of the frame rail (on the right) was the reinforcement plate for the tailpipe hanger. The area to the left didn't have anything from the factory that I know of. Here's a couple of pics from my COPO. These items would have ben on any factory dual exhaust equipped car, not just COPO's.
Would love to hear more about your car, got any more info on it?

The bracket that was torn off was not used with dual exhaust but it was installed on all 1969 Camaros. Might have to find one if you're restoring back to day one...Joe

Another hole question...
2 holes behind rear seat, circled in yellow... do you know if they were used for anything?

Not sure what they are for? Maybe something to do with a 6 cyl hanger for exhaust? Regardless, all 69s have those holes and it has nothing to do with being a copo and they are not used for anything on a copo.

I’m going to take slight issue with this statement, in all due respect. It is an exhaust hanger for single exhaust. All 69s had them regardless if it had dual exhaust.

Those 2 holes he has circled are not supposed to be there. They must've had something mounted there. Was the car a race car?...Joe

Yes it was a race car.
I am working with the original owner who raced it at the track some, but didn't remember doing anything with these holes. He also drove the car as a daily driver. Today it has a little over 12,800 miles on it
The second owner of the car also raced it, but unfortunately has passed away. The third owner of the car did not race it.
I believe I am the forth owner of the car. When I bought it the previous owner had started to restore it and disassembled most of it.
The second owner of the car was a little more "disrespectful" of the car and put a few holes in her... it was just a race car ...
If they don't belong, then I will plan to get them patched up.
