'70 Cutlass Rallye 350, #s 350/4-sp, Docs

If you were in the market for one of these, this looks to be a pretty good one. I take it the POP would show a W27-specific axle code, which would be a neat pedigree to have as I know this is a pretty rare and cool option. However, unless I'm mistaken this car has only a W27 diff cover and not the actual W27 aluminum center section.....

I have never seen a paper-worked W27 Rallye 350. Of course there are many claims. The Olds protect-o-plate shows no options for 1970. Also the broadcast card does not designate the 4 speed or rearend gear ratio. Oldsmobile’s can be very difficult to document.

All the Rallye's I have had or seen have had slashes for the paint code on the trim tag..

Sebring Yellow was a special order color for Oldsmobile and the W-cars in 1970. So the dash/dash paint code for this color on a Lansing built Code W45, W30 or W31 is correct. I have seen some W29 / STD 442 cars with the paint code called out. This car has the correct - -. Not stating it’s not a real car, just not much to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it is indeed a Rallye 350 4 speed car. Which is very low production to total number produced.

Note that the rear end cover was available as a dealer installed option on any Oldsmobile. This particular cover is a reproduction.

I like the Rallye cars a lot, but I think the audience is small. IMO, this one has a shopping list of stuff I'd have to address if I was a player. I still want one; just not this one. And, as Stefano said above, tough to determine originality on some Oldsmobile's. I doubt this one has been faked as over the years I've only ever seen one clone (and it was blatantly obvious with a quick glance of the data plate).

I saw one of these at a local show last year. Neat cars.

About 20 years ago I had a 70 Cutlass SX convertible in Bamboo - the color looked a lot like Butternut Yellow. It was an eye-catching car and a really nice, smooth ride. Wish I still had it. Sold it for $8500 when I bought my BB 'vert. Couldn't keep them all, but this is one that I would have second thoughts about letting go of if I had it to do again. From what I understand, there were not very many SX convertibles produced.
