Rear Seat/Trunk Divider
2 Attachment(s)
Any good sources for large sheets of material they made into seat/trunk dividers back in the day. From what I've gathered off the internet, the material is referred to as chipboard. Matching pictures indicates its unbleached. Uline sells 40x48 in 0.022" to 0.120" thicknesses, but the cost is in the hundreds. Only need a couple of sheets. Dividers sold by the parts guys have the correct cut, but are made mostly out of solid black cardboard.

Try this company. They call it cowlboard. Check around the 117 page in their catalog

Try these guys:
https://www.remautoinc.com/products.php They make a very good Underhood insulation pad. I need one of the trunk dividers also. Let us know what you find out. |

By the way, my '70 z is a 04B NORWOOD also. We should compare numbers sometime. |

Heard back from Restoration Specialties. They sell tar based material, no paper type. Still, a lot of good stuff on their site. Have it bookmarked. |

I do have my original, but it is torn and taped in a few spots. It is good enough I can make a pattern out of it in CAD. I will try to figure out the material. If I can find a source I will let you know. I can then buy some and possibly cut it on a CNC Xacto knife machine we have at work. I had to do that for the package tray. The repop trays don't have the insulating foam backing. I carefully peeled my original off and created a pattern in CAD and cut it out on the machine. I was surprised that Legendary doesn't do the insulating backing or even the correct rear speaker cutout. Their speaker version tray only has the type that has a series of holes covered by black mesh. In the mean time I will try to remember to measure it tonight and post the thickness. I've seen several 70z's from early April. 04A's and B's. The line must have been rolling pretty good at that time. |

Measured my divider...looks to be about 0.090 thick. most likely a nominal of 3/32" originally.
For the insulator, look at the first photo you posted on the inside of the trunk. You can see the foam peeking out around the openings. Apparently it could either be foam or jute. I haven't discovered where or when it transitioned or if it was an either-or thing. My car was a Z87 car and it supposedly had "extra insulation" as part of that option package, but nobody has ever said what that actually is other than the underhood mat and the cowl seals. Maybe the foam was part of that? An interesting thing I did discover when taking off the foam. There was a round cutout in the middle of the foam at the point close to the rear window. The only thing I can determine is the die to cut the foam was made for the cancelled Vigilite system where there would have been and indicator for the rear lights mounted on the package tray, like the '69's had. About the best I have been able to come with so far is this:
https://www.utrechtart.com/Utrecht-C...015785.utrecht The divider measures 21.5 high by 48 wide, but the 48 includes a 2 inch wide pointed edge for about 2 inches high that honestly you can't see anyway from the trunk. You could get the thickness by getting the 1/32 and 1/16 thicknesses and gluing them together. This is all I have been able to find in single sheet sales that is reasonably priced. Hope this helps. EDIT: I went ahead and ordered a sheet of the 1/32 and the 1/16 and I'll let you know what they look like. 15.00 bucks what do I have to lose? |
