Underside floor paint on a '67 Camaro
 

I'm starting the cleanup and prep of the new trunk floor for paint and am wondering if there is a source for the blue/grey shade of paint for this.

I've been cleaning the underside to get it ready for paint and am convinced this paint was applied by the factory. Too much evidence to ignore.
Does anyone have information or experience with this on a LOS built '67 Camaro, or, possibly, other models built there ???


Blue under the axle bump stop, I believe I am the first person to remove. Gold overspray on top of the blue.

After attempting to clean the greasy mess of the underside on a creeper, I gave in, pulled the subframe intact and put the body on the rotisserie.

This blue/gray color is everywhere under here and I'd really like to know if this is factory original. It certainly seems to be to me, as it is under every piece that is attached after it was applied. With the crusty, rusty, neglected condition the car was in when I got it, it is hard to believe someone took the time/effort to strip this floor to bare metal and repaint it at some time in the past. If that is what took place here, the incomplete application and uneven coverage would not fit with such an in depth restoration/modification. It is a LOS built car in the 3rd week of Feb. The Mountain Green Z28 that Jon found, and was at MCACN last fall, has a similar application of bluish paint also, but not nearly as much. That car is unmolested and has been judged. How was the blue paint on that car regarded as far as originality ?
The previous pics were taken with a light under the car and do not reflect the color accurately. This next set are with the body rolled over and lit by led ceiling lighting. The pics still don't look 100% the same to me, as looking at the floor in person, but much closer than previously.

Under the spring cup clip nuts and all the clips for both the fuel and brake lines, but not on the clips.

The paint appears to have been sprayed from the center tunnel outward as it gets thinner towards the rockers to the extent that it is barely discernible there and the floor has light rust.

More cleaning, more paint under every removable part.

Has anyone seen anything like this ? It certainly seems to have been applied at the factory.

This fuel line clip has some sort of sealing washer under it.

What was the original color of the exterior of the car?

My survivor November 1966 LOS 67 Camaro SS350 has black floor pans with Granada Gold overspray. The sheen of the black looks about the same as the primer on NOS sheet metal.

I have a 02A 1969 Z/28 I have a gray /blue paint undermine also only doesn't as much blue in mine. Not sure which way to go yet.

I finished cleaning the grease and oil off today and started scrapping the factory undercoating out of the right wheel well. I was being careful to only take the undercoating off and leave any evidence of blue and I stopped scrapping when I saw, what I at first thought was, bare metal and moved the scrapper to the next area. After a bit longer, my scrapper went thru this color and there is the blue primer ! I then saw where I had scrapped to bare metal a few years ago, when installing the trunk floor. I cleaned the edge of the primer with scotch brite to enhance the 3, distinct, colors of bare metal, blue primer and, what is now more evident, Gold overspray on top of that and the undercoating OVER all of that, just like it should be from the factory....:wink:
