Chevelle 12 bolt

Is a CKK 1114B1 Chevelle 12 bolt worth any more than any other Chevelle 12 bolt? Looks like it's a 4.10 from the 14th day of November 1970 if I decoded this correctly. No mention of Positraction and no E stamped on the tube that I can see. It does have a 4 series Eaton Posi in it, but that's easily changed.

CKK 4.10 12-bolt Positraction SS 396 L78 Only
Value I would say $2500 to $3000 Think the 4.10 LS6 Posi Rear is worth more because of higher demand. |
WOW!!! I was going to modify this rear end to go in a '67 Chevelle gasser that I had planned to build. I hadn't checked the code until today. I'm glad I didn't do anything to it yet. I think someone may have installed c clip eliminators. I haven't removed the brake drums to check.

Pretty rare rear end. It should have a 4 series Eaton in it since the 4.10 is a 4 series gear and Eaton was the supplier. Very narrow market. I think $2500 is a slight stretch on this as you would have to find the one guy on the planet willing to spend that for this rear end. I think real value is in the $1500-$1800 area personally.

It doesn't have the GM gears in it. I think the gears that are in it now are Richmond, but it is a 4 series Eaton. I'm guessing that the Richmond gears and possible c clip eliminators will bring the price down, but still probably should't modify it for a gasser. I may have a set of GM 4.10 gears.

The CKK or earlier KK rears were only available with a posi, so they never were stamped with the "E".
I'd also say it's worth around $2k, but you'd likely have to wait awhile for the right buyer or ship. Nice rear Freddie....and that's from a straight guy. |
Before I checked the codes on this I was sure that there were no 4 series standard differentials for the car 12 bolt. This one had me confused because it didn't have the E on it. Now I understand. Thanks jer.

What's the casting number on the rearend housing?
There's probably an "E" on it,but not in the usual place. |
I would stick to the higher $2500-$3000 price. You can always come down. I have sold regular 12 bolts in the $1000-1500 range so I do not think it is a stretch at all. Yes your audience will be smaller but for someone restoring the right car that rearend is worth a lot to them. 4.10 LS6 rears bring STUPID money so I do not think that range is bad at all.

Thanks for all of the input guys. I'm not really wanting to sell it, not right now anyway, but I didn't want to modify a rear end that was special. I'll probably end up doing a Dana 60 anyway.
I'm guessing that I missed the date by a year. As I understand it the L78 was an early '70 Chevelle, so this housing would be a November 14 '69 build. I'll check the casting date when I get a chance. |
