Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Wow! What a crazy car week this has been. While telling Rick Pauley (RixLS6) how to find a certain 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan for sale.....Rick stumbles on something even better!
I said.... "What could possibly be better?" Rick, says "I found a Real Black SS396 Post Sedan and its an L78 car" In the mean time my phone is ringing off the hook as others are finding out about this car....Fire Spreading Fast. As I type this, Rick Pauley and Jim Hanke are driving back home with this real Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Chevelle on the trailer. Look for more pictures....and the complete story from Rick in a few days. Special Thanks go out to Jim Hanke for driving Rick and picking up this Special Chevelle. Congrats to Rick Pauley (RixLS6) on purchasing his third 1969 Post Sedan and his second SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Chevelle. Pics.....Obviously a drag car most all it`s life. What a shame for someone to cut open a real SS Hood. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps82bf09d3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps6fa4ec20.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psb45e7583.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps85ceab69.jpg Check out the "Single" fuel line http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psf7526746.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps74b44a61.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psdc0a5699.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps81417ea3.png Dan |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Dan,
Im pissed off and happy all at the same time. Being this car was for sale 10 minutes from my house and I never went and looked at it. Im pissed its not in my garage but happy its in someones hands that will completely restore it correctly.. Im definitely looking forward to more pics. Whats the chances that the build sheet is behind the original door panels. |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I got to have a couple cold bud lights to bring me back down. This is awesome!

Dan,
Was just thinking is there a factory tach in this car! |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Nice find.
10-10, black goes so nicely with black. Ryan |

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Just got home with the new addition.
If Dan hadn't told me to look at the Detoit Craigslist, I wouldn't have known about this car. I'll post what pics I took after we first got there and then put her on a trailer. She's had a harsh drag car life, but what a cool find. It's had at least 4 different colors on it, Black, Yellow, Red, and now blue. I'll be putting it in my shop tomorrow morning as it's too hard to maneuver my driveway when it's dark out. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...10_pnt_001.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...10_pnt_002.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...10_pnt_003.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...10_pnt_004.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...10_pnt_005.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...10_pnt_006.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...10_pnt_007.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...10_pnt_008.jpg |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Anybody ever hear of "De LaSalle Collegiate Pilots"?
That's what the decal on the back window says. |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Rick,
Theres a private school I beleive here in the Detroit area where the car is from called De LaSalle. Maybe an old parking permit. Thats what it looks like to me. Mike |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Mike,
Yes it is a parking permit for that school. What kind of a private school is it? Anything to do with pilot training? |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Rick,
I'll be over early on Sunday, get the coffee and donuts ready..... Lets pull that baby apart and ready for first phase of resto! Dan |

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Rick,
Is that a factory or Ziebart under coating plug I see? Very typical for a Mid-West/Detroit car. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...pse6466a6e.jpg Dan |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
If it was Canadian the plug would be hovering in mid air due to the rusty lack of floor pans.

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I see it looks like a 4 core radiator, I wonder if it's the original Harrison, is it a stick radiator or auto. I did notice it to be a manual car. Also IM dying to know if it's got a factory tach Mike
|
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Nice find Dan and Rick. Now get the green LS6 done before you start this one Rick!
|
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Rick,
We will be restoring in chronological order.... '69 comes before '70 Dan |

Car is definitely a factory four speed that was converted to an automatic for racing. It is an automatic radiator, No factory tach just idiot lights. Car's only showing 16K on the odometer. |

Notice the boarded up house in the background?
Seemed like about 20 % of the houses in the area were boarded up and about one house every other block was destroyed by fire. |

The occupants of Detroit vandalize, burn, and destroy almost anything.. A pretty rough area. I was born and raised there, it's kind to bad it could be very nice.city. A aplace you don't wanna be after dark. |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
The neighborhood where this car was photographed was probably beautiful and prosperous 30 years ago. Too bad. The homes actually look nice here. Similar thing going on in some of the hoods near Cleveland. Not as bad as Detroit though.

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Nice find, another nice original car rescued from the bowels of the city.

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Yeah, that neighborhood does look like it was very nice way back when.
What a shame. Took a few pics early yesterday when Jim (Wheelhop) brought the car to my shop. More to come later. Original drums and rotors still on it. Looks like a Lakewood rollbar, right? https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...3-2840-007.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...3-2841-004.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...3-2842-003.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...3-2843-009.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...3-2844-010.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...3-2845-026.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...3-2846-019.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...3-2847-020.jpg |

I love how crisp the Kansas City trim tags usually are. At least that has been my experience, this one looks great.

Phil W. </div></div> Yes, except for my shaky old hands blurring it. I cleaned one of the spiral shocks in the rear, and it has a 69 date with an F41 part number. I'll check the other shock today when Dan comes over to help me strip the junk off the car. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...3-2848-028.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...3-2849-030.jpg |
