Vintage Harley advice

Have a friend (Jim) with a 1942 WLA Harley. I believe he bought it many years ago.

According to Jim, " It has 4,000 miles mol on the speedometer. Bought in Kazakhstan with blackout lights on the brake lights. It is not in military green."

I sent him links to some auctions on Ebay, of complete (or almost complete) bikes priced from
$8500 to $37,000.

He has not sent pics to me yet. I think he is hoping for something around $15k.

Can anyone put me in touch with an honest Harley guy to help Jim put a value on his bike?

Thanks for any help.

Give the Harley museum a call. They don't advertise the service but there are archivists on staff and they have records going way back. That part is not open to the public.

Have the VIN & pics ready.

very easy to tell if it was originally a military bike. The left side engine case will say 42WLA followed by its serial # If it was a regular production/civilian bike it will start. e with the year & WL . Even though the WLA's were built thru out most of WWII they all were Stamped as 42's. Even though they are cool little bikes , they are far from rare ,with nearly 120,000? built. And they can be all over the place price wise ! $12,000-$22,000 depending on condition, originality or if the bike is correctly restored ? but most that I see sell tend to be in the mid teens
