Welding Muncie handle to Hurst shifter????

Hi everyone,

Just bought a '67 Camaro real 4K L78 car. Already hate the Muncie shifter as it is now bound up in reverse. Fortunately, I was able to back into my garage and I'll have to get under this weekend and get it unlocked.

Plan is to order a Hurst Competition Plus shifter and linkage kit (pretty spendy over $700) and then cut the shifter handle off and weld the Muncie stick to it as I am a purist and want to maintain the stock look.

Seems straightforward enough. Any concerns guys or tips?

Thanks,

Paul

I am pretty sure you can purchase a reproduction Muncie handle that is already made to fit the Hurst shifter mechanism. You won't ruin your original handle and is less expensive then rechroming the one you cut and weld. They make them for the Chevelle so likely made for the Camaro as well.

A 67 Camaro factory handle can be cut off & drilled to match the Hurst shifter stub, unless you want to save it, like Rick said they may make a handle now. Hurst pricing has got stupid in last few yrs.

This is what I did (cut and drilled) with my shifter and it was pretty easy.

Paul, I am in the exact same situation. Finding it Difficult on taking the Death=Wheel to my Org "MUNCIE" chrom plated handle.

I bought the Plated version of the 67/68 shifter then ordered a 3/8UNC 'chrome' ball.

Also picked up: Hardened Bushing and properly sized New Clips

I am not positive they are Making a "F" Body Handle yet, I might have not looked hard enough tho.

Anybody got the Source and Part number for this Muncie Logo Hurst handle? (I have see Chevelle Handles of this description from the ("Parts Place")

Maybe Joe at the parts place repos it or should? I thought Ground Up reproduced it before ? How close is a Chevelle handle shape?

I did the same thing with mine, but it's harden steel. I used a high speed drill bit for the holes. It will sit a little higher than stock, but you'll be the only one that knows it.
