1970 V code Cuda

I bought this Cuda yesterday from the owner who has had it since 1974. The car has the original drive train 440 six pack, 4 speed and 4:10 Dana. The body is all original sheet metal with one older repaint. I didnt think I would like the burnt orange paint but after seeing it I do. Do they sell assembly manuals like they do for Chevys?
I am on the search for valve covers, ignition system, spare tire |
Very cool
|
I'm jealous. I'm looking at a 70 that is that color to purchase. 340 4speed though...Joe

Very cool John. I saw this on Facebook. Neat car...congrats!!

What a find! Original SHAKER car?
|
Thanks Bruce, yes original Shaker pretty highly optioned car. I can not find any info on how many six pack Shakers. I guess that info is not available
|
That......is mighty cool!!
|
John,
Congrats! She will look great at Lombard :) We just cannot let these MOPARS take over the lot! LOL. Dan |
Lee Stewart posted all these items when I was asking about 1970 'Cudas. Very cool stuff...Joe

Very Nice! Great color. Great drivetrain.
Make sure you have at least two throttle return springs on the main carb. (You can actually put a smaller diameter spring inside the factory return sprung and route them in tandem). I learned the hard way that one is not enough. It broke while leaving a toll booth back in 1983 and all six barrells instantly went to wide open throttle. Quite an exciting tens seconds of terror. |
LOVE that color. Great looking car.
|
Thanks everyone, Joe thanks for the sites to read. I already decoded my fender tag its really strange I have a N31 means optional compression. I do not understand that one. Seems like they double up on options. I have a A34 which includes 26 in radiator and the heavy duty fan, but they still list 26 in radiator and N65 heavy duty fan seperatly on the tag
Steve I will be sure to check the return spring to see if there is 2 |
A34 is the Super Track Pack which was the 4.10 Dana rear option that had a bunch of other mandatory options included in the price - like power disc brakes, clutch fan package and 26" radiator. The "26" on the fender tag is a normal occurrence.
Are you sure it's not M31? the normal molding package for a Cuda. Sometimes the letters are hard to read. Post a photo of the tag if you got one. |

N31 would not be on the fender tag for a car that was shipped within the USA As Steve said it is probably M31 which is a belt molding. https://i.postimg.cc/GpFrYhHB/70ply7...dertag-800.jpg See the Y07 code - that means build for Canada Order. Y05: build for USA Order. Y09: build for Export Order. |

I guess it is M31 that explains it Thanks
|
They must have added the Black Sport Tape Stripes because V6X does not appear on the Fender Tag
EN1 means a single Fender Tag. If the number of options requires a second Tag, EN1 will not be there and EN2 will appear on the second Fender Tag: https://i.postimg.cc/ZnrDsCz3/1998.jpg |
I fiqured they added it I didnt see it either. The car has a rim blow steering wheel would that be on the tag? The guy I bought it from said it was on the car when he bought it in 1974

Did you get a Build Sheet with the car? Things like tires and wheels do not appear on the Fender Tag. They would be on the Build Sheet https://i.postimg.cc/7hMmMdSn/JH.jpg |
|
It's a beautiful car! Burnt Orange really pops in sunlight. Good luck with it.
 |
I did not get a build sheet with the car

I would think the sheet is still in the car if the same owner has had it from 74. I'd be looking!

I do not think I will find one since in the mid 70 this is what he did to the interior. Its ashame everything else in the interior is perfect. I can not believe Legendary is 32 weeks out for seat covers
|
Yup, I ordered my white seat cover set from them and it took about 6 months or so to arrive...and that was a year and half ago.
Classic has the Legendary, rear bench seat, in black, in stock. https://www.classicindustries.com/pr.../me702100.html (Disgregard the wrong photo of a front bench in their ad page) |
Anyone ever use PUI I think I can get them sooner. I am going to call and order the back seat tomorrow
|
Do not use PUI. Not even close.
Legendary is the way to go. |
I agree.....do not use PUI, I certainly do not.

This was not faded this was down in rust to match the color of the car
|
Thanks Steve ordered the back seat covers today will get them within a week. What is the best size hog rings to use?
|
Excellent! You're halfway there!
3/4" is the size. Always better to have too many than too few. I think I bought 1000 for the entire front and rear seat project. You can get 500 for around $8 on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |
Can you post a better photo of the engine compartment? I think those chrome valve covers are the 1970's-80's Direct Connection chrome ones. They are rather valuable to the Day 2 crowd.

Here are some pictures of the valve covers. I can not believe they would put the coil right next to the carbs and fuel lines enclosed under the shaker scoop. When did they stop the aluminum intake and go to cast iron. I know the valve covers have been on since the 80s
|
Yes, those are the Direct Connection valve covers.
In 1970, Chrysler basically just borrowed the Edelbrock casting molds and made them for themselves in iron after the model year started since Edelbrock couldn't keep up with the demand for the popular new 440+6 engine. The switch over was around December...and your car was built December 5, 1969. So the aluminum intake could be original to your car. And yeah, Chrysler really crammed all those components under that shaker next to the carbs. |
Is there any difference in stock 1970 six pack valve covers are they all the same? thanks for the info
|
The painted steel valve covers are the same for 1970 and 71 for 4bbl and 6-bbl. It pretty much depends on whether they have the spark plug wire and wiring harness tabs on them in the right places.
Here's something I found real quick that breaks it down with photos: https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads...ate-dates.html AMD makes a really nice set of reproduction steel valve covers: https://www.autometaldirect.com/amd-...406-p-662.html |
Bas ass!
