Is this air cleaner a correct original for a 69 Camaro? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

It is correct for a Z/28 or BB built prior to about July 1969. Flat bottom at some point.

I was always under the impression that early 69's were flat bottom based, and that the switch over to the indented groove base was sometime around August of 69 during the initial 70 build. This base I don't think is correct for any 69 or 70 model as the breather elbow is the 2nd design style part # 6485891 vs the 69-70 part # 6485235 which uses a different elbow.

So does that make it an OTC replacement? I think the 71 and 72 Chevelle version had a valve on top of the snorkel, which this does not have.

Re: 69 Camaro Cowl induction?

Unfortunately not really. 71-72 Chevelles used a thermac style air cleaner. This one was listed in the 71 parts books for the 454-425 shp application. Unfortunately no known cars with docs exist. Plenty of parts, just no actual cars.

Duh; I am asleep at the wheel today.

I had it backwards, the base in the pic is the later version; early ZL2 cars had the flat bottom with the 90º vent tube. At some point in production [July 1969?] this version was used. All the service replacement ducted hood bases I have seen are as shown in the picture.

Sorry for the hijack but while on air cleaners, does anyone recognize this one below?.
The red has been added, the lid incorrect and bottom shown as the indent may be unique?.
The top looks big car L72'ish or even Z16 except the snorkles look they may be even wider and the driver's side snork points slighly downwards, no Thermactors and the A329C filter fits it..

Mike,
Rick's pictures are of the bottom of the air cleaner base. The flame or spark arrestor mounts to the top of the tube in the picture.
