Original Chevy License Plates, How about this one

Since we have been on the topic of the original Chevy USA-1 license plates recently, I thought I would post pictures of this license plate. I have only seen this plate on factory photos & dealer/salesman films. C1-19-70 was the plate for a 1970 model year car. They correspond to the year of the car, for example a 1971 Chevy would be C1-19-71. I'm guessing the C1 means "Chevrolet One" or "Number One"

Has anyone ever picked up any of these plates?? How cool would it be to have an original one of these???

Rich

since they are not tied to a state I would think you could have one made, not original but it would look good on a red 70 Chevelle

Those are cool specific GM in house plates.
They used that type throughout many a photo over the years, before & after that.
Used as a source to document the Mfr./year a model was in their studio field photographs.
C stood for Communication, meaning their intended designated reference source like Centrals i.e promotional press,,and the 1 for Chevrolet..As opposed to Buick-Olds-Pontiac.
They were made out ot the thinnest tin back then,as they were obviously dated and disposed of once the next year came along.
I think I saw Ausleys or Ted Williams selling these repopped once back in the 1980's,but I don't think they were embossed like the originals were.
I've been waiting for an original for awhile now,as there are a few retired exec./techs who claim to have some.
