New Camaro Build
I e-mailed some Oshawa car plant maintenance friends to find out what was going on with the Camaro line. Two came back with the same reply. Everything is poking along at a snails pace. It seems as if management doesn't really care if the Camaro ever gets built. The people are ready to work but there just doesn't seem to be much direction from above. From my many years of experience with model change overs in Oshawa, probably about 10, production would be up to full speed by now. The workers were called back in early November. Three months is turtle speed and things are still slow from what I have heard. WHAT is going on?

Re: New Camaro Build
Credit markets still frozen? Money not flowing? Waiting to see where the bottom of the global economic collapse is?
Just a few guesses, could be wrong. |

That should be enough pull demand to get the assembly process moving. Like any new introductions there are delays, however this introduction is compounded by the economic variable. |

Re: New Camaro Build
March 16th is production date and plant workers are saying that they have been slowly ramping up. In December and January they were building about 6 cars a day. They will be slowly increasing that everyday until March 16th.
They also did not want to have any parts shortages which would cause production constraints. This week, the factory has begun accepting final orders. All dealers will know by the end of this week, how many cars to expect in their first shipment. |
