How can I adjust the side mirror?

M22 Mike restored my 69 Z28 about 9 or 10 years ago.At the time we used Trim Parts side mirror. The quality was/is first class. The only problem that has developed is the mirror is now "loose"---it won't hold its position and road vibration causes it to point down.I readjust it and in a few moments it's down again.

Is there a way to increase the "friction" so the mirror stops sagging?

There is no screw adjustment---just a ball/socket type arrangement.

Thanks-DandyDon

I have the same problem with an original one, everytime I close my door it moves out of position.

I tried silicon, loc-tite, etc. Now I have JB Weld epoxy on it-so far so good. Wiped it clean before it dried so you can't see it on the ball.

Don, "get on" that Mike and tell him it's a warranty issue and he needs to come up with a solution to fix it!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif

I got some warranty for you BOY https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif

Here is the Billy Bob fix I have used a couple of times.
Take the mirror off the car and place it face down on the bench.
Adjust the ball all the way over, and untill the shaft stops in the socket.
Take a automatic center punch and make a series of punch marks on the ball, working all 360* around the ball.
The idea is to upset some metal that should add some friction. Repeat as needed.
Don I can not remember now, I may have tried that on your car https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Call me.

Mike.

P.S. Rich....it will require Beer...but when I see you next time I will explain to you what a automatic center punch is... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: How can I adjust the side mirror?

A friend of mine had the same problem. He adjusted the mirror to the desired alignment, carefully removed it and laid it face down on a table. He used the clear liquid in a Windshield Crack Repair Kit. Just a couple of drops around the ball and let it set. That was almost two years ago and so far no problem.
One issue I can see is people bumping it at a cruise or show, but we all know that could NEVER happen! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif

I like Mike's idea with the beer and automatic center punch https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif I will give that a try on the 67 tonight https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

The center punch is the way to go. If you have a steady hand you can do it on the car with one shot, that has lasted about two years for me. (original mirror) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

If you use "beer" take it off the car first!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

Hay guy's..the beer ref was just to bust Rich's chops... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Was not suggesting the beer was required to do the repair https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
