NHRA F/MP 3??

I have got back to block sanding on Beater (winter Project) you can see a faint F/MP and a 3?? under it on the B pillar Im taking this is a class it was raced in, what was the criteria of this class in late 60's early 70's my Guess is the car was last set up in 1973 alot of the engine parts are 73 including packard wires, I would have thought some better form of wires would have been used at that time??? no clue I was only 5 in 73.....

Modified Production, F...class went 'bye bye' in '81...there's a good story floating around about the protest by the racers @ Indy.

I would guess it was a division 3 car.

Re: NHRA F/MP 3??

NHRA F/MP nova back in 1973 was probably 300 inches or so with a tunnel ram. The record back in 1973 was 11.20 at 121.49 set in April. And Kim is right the number 3 probably designates a DIV-3 car (probably a couple numbers after the 3) which is Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana etc. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Well the Camaro was originally a 6 so Im wondering then on that 300ci limit your refering to if this car was originally raced as a 6cyl, and took the transformation to a big blocks some time after https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif maybe 73?? Im not sure if you remember from last years posts the car is very interesting and seems to have been raced its whole life but with no real body mods other than a stinger hood. It might have been raced in div-3, early In my original posts I thought it was a east coast car, but it did make its way west early in life, It has some track wins from lions on it and thats quite far from div 3 so https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif same as last year... I just hope I have it finished this winter https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Maybe I stuck the wrong engine in...

Should have been a 6cyl, M22, BE 12 bolt with 4:88's https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: NHRA F/MP 3??

H/MP was for the 6 cyl's. Lots of little small blocks in M/P. 267 c.i. was popular combo in F in Camaros and Corvettes. I think there may have been some with even smaller displacements. Lots of shoebox Chevys in G with small blocks due to weight/c.i. ratios determining class. Those little motors would scream usually leaving at close to 10K rpm. Modified was really cool when it was a separate eliminator but NHRA screwed 'em. They kept the classes but moved some to Superstock and others to Comp eliminators
