Torque Thrust Wheels on 68 Nova?
Anyone know what size Torque Thrust Wheels fit a 68 Nova with 4 piston calipers? What back spacing will fit in the stock wheel wells with out rubbing? Looking to put Redline Radial tires and American Torque Thrusts on a friends newly purchased 68 SS350 Nova. Suggestions needed on tire sizes as well. 14 or 15 inch?

Re: Torque Thrust Wheels on 68 Nova?
Tommy Turner has them on his 68...touch base with him. I persoanlly like the look of the 15" wheel....15 x 6 or 7 should work...6's might be better. 215/70 or 75 R15 all around or maybe 225's in the back. Be careful of "tire rub" with 225's on the front...The 4 piston calipers do rub sometimes depending on the wheel design.
let's see some photos...wilma https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Re: Torque Thrust Wheels on 68 Nova?
I'm running 14 x 7s with 1½" positive back spacing & F70's on my '69. I have some clearance issues on the rear. Air shocks cured the problem. (The top pic is a bit deceiving. The car is sitting on a slight slope and makes it look like the rear is higher than it actually is.)
14 x 6s should give you plenty of room depending on your tire size. As for caliper clearance, I have drums on the Nova but I've had these wheels on my Chevelle and they clear the stock calipers. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...DSCF0006-3.jpg http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...DSCF0009-4.jpg |
Re: Torque Thrust Wheels on 68 Nova?
I do have them on my 68 but I do not have 4 piston calipers. I did have 69 Nova disks on it for a while with no problems though. Mine are Torque Thrust D's which cleared the calipers fine. 15x7 on all corners (I cannot remember backspacing but its on the boxes if you need me to check) I run a 215/65/15 on front to match the height of the 245/60/15 on the back. Anything taller on the front with a 15 inch wheel and you will have to remove the top bolt from the inner fender or you will hear an aggravating rub at times. People tell me they like the 15's on my Nova but I like the look of a 14 with more rubber personally. If I ever change I may go with 14 inch TTO's and go with a 6 inch wheel up front. I only grabbed these since they weren't picked up by a customer at a wheel store. I couldn't pass up the deal at the time.

Only difference is the weight of the 396 vs the small block in the blue Nova. I borrowed the wheels since i'll likely never put the black car back together again... The disk brakes were on the black Nova. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...vyII/nova3.jpg I had been playing with springs up front on the black Nova so I cannot remember what was on the car when this photo was taken. I think it was the tall moroso trick springs Tommy https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |
Re: Torque Thrust Wheels on 68 Nova?
I just bought a set of TTO 15x7 rears planning to fit 275/60/15 tires like Joe's silver Nova and 15x5 fronts with 205/65/15 tires for my 69 Nova. On an early 69 Camaro that I had a couple of years that had the 68 style calipers. I needed to clearance the back of the 15x7 TTO wheels and ended up needing to remove the raised lettering on the calipers to get everything to clear. There are no brake clearance issues with the D spokes.

Re: Torque Thrust Wheels on 68 Nova?
I'm not sure if this will help you, but I have 16x7's up front with a 4in back space and 16x8's in the rear with 4 1/2in back spacing. I have the disc brake conversion up front and I don't have any issues at all. A salesman at the local tire chain said that it wouldn't work. Boy was he surprised when I rolled it out of there with the Torque II's on it.
