opinion on 70 charger with factory wing
My neighbor drove over yesterday, telling me he thinks he has the one and only factor spoilered 70 chargers. He has had close to zero luck getting ahold of galen. One chrysler savvy guy he met told him they only built one car with a spoiler in 69, and then chrysler only later released (much later actually) as a dealer installed item only.
he has it on his buildsheet, so I think he is right, or on to something rare. car is very cool, its a 6 pack, 4spd, has the factory 440 hood black out too. Maybe its a chicago autoshow car, who knows, but it is an early 70 car (built in 69). any opinions I how I can help him get help on the spoiler topic? I know some mopar folks float on this board too. next stop would be moparts... |
Re: opinion on 70 charger with factory wing
His car sounds neat but he's way off with the one-of-one spoiler story.
It was an available option on any 1970 Charger. Here's a 70 FC7 Plum Crazy R/T, original hemi automatic car. It sold recently on ebay but I know this car from when I was living in Colorado back in the 1980's. I have seen several over the years with factory decklid wings as documented on the buildsheet. http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...0027748_tp.jpg http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...0027731_tp.jpg http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...9959737_tp.jpg And if I recall my Mopar autoshow 1970 Charger trivia, those Chargers were orange 440 Six-Packs cars, all with sunroofs and all with luggage racks (no wing spoilers). |
Re: opinion on 70 charger with factory wing
thanks, I will let him know, it will probably burst his bubble a bit.
to your autoshow info: why would anyone put a luggage rack on one of these cars? that trunk has to be huge already... luggage rack on an ebody (yes), but one of these boats? wow. by the way, this car is hemi orange. |
Re: opinion on 70 charger with factory wing
I am in agreement with NJSteve. Although your Buddies car sounds neat, it is not one-off by any means.
As an aside, Stefano/Nickey Chicago currently has what may be the neatest 6-Pack 4-speed '70 Charger around; triple black, pistol grip in a console and straight as can be. http://www.nickeychicago.net/vehicle.php?id=262 If my bank account had enough...or any money in it, that baby would be in my garage! black69
Is this car you speak of near Dundee Il.? |
Re: opinion on 70 charger with factory wing
car is 30 minutes from dundee. It was originaly sold new in crystal lake or dundee area when he did the owner history on it.
I agree bob, that black charger (~not triple black) is really nice. If you have ever seen one of those with red interior, they are also wicked, with the red tail stripe. I like the black v tops on these cars actually. |
Re: opinion on 70 charger with factory wing
That Charger should have a white stripe.
If you go to THIS site, you'll see that option J81 is the rear spoiler. They made approximately 197 Charger R/Ts with this option . . . but it's for US-spec cars only and doesn't include total production. Since your friend and his "experts" seem to be open to misinformation, here's another thing for them to think about: You cannot combine production figures. In other words, if his car is purple, he can't figure out the purple number and then figure out how many of those purple cars came with the spoiler. |

Re: opinion on 70 charger with factory wing
No kidding.
I swear, Mopar people are full of more BS than other brands. People will hear something and then it becomes fact. It's probably because there's a lot of production info out there while many other brands have to make do with very little. |
