Racing the Deuce

While the weather remains nice, been doing a little racing with the Deuce.

There is a 1/8 mile track near Newport, AR that is really old school. An old airport that has lots of concrete, including the track. No time boards, you back into the water/burnout box, and the best part, a guy in the 2nd floor of the tower drops your timeslip (attached to a clothespin) into a pipe which leads to a bucket near the ground. No win light at the end of the track so during elims you do not know if you won or lost until you get back to the pits.

Yesterday was my second trip there. Great weather, lots of cool cars, wife and the grandson with me, and the Deuce running good. During qualifying the Deuce was running strong, with a couple of 6.8s and a best ever 1.50 60’.

Because I would rather launch with the transbrake then foot brake, I have to run the Pro class, which means most cars have the full array of electronics, which makes then dead on consistent.

First round I drew the bye, so that was the good news, the bad news, in the semis I drew the local driver who is there every weekend, runs two classes and usually takes home some $$$. Against me his RT time was .001 and he ran a 7.043 on a 6.990 dial. Me, I made my best run ever during a elimination round, a .013 RT and a 6.801 on a 6.800 dial, which got me the win light, by an inch or two.

For the finals I was up against another local, which gave me an a little opening at the tree, ,as his RT was a .056, but I got greedy and turned on the red bulb by .013. The good news out of that run, the Deuce ran a best ever 6.74, plus, I won some cash for the runner up spot.

Needles to say, I am having a lot of fun with the Deuce.

Yeah...I think you are right. Taken the Deuce somewhere the last 3 weekends and crewed for Rob Friday.

Up against a 17 girl from our neck of the woods, her first year of racing, getting very good. This was during time trials, she cut a .001 light against me. She went on the win the footbrake class.
