69 Z28

I'm going to look at a Z which has been off the road for 25 years or so. Nice running, driving #'s car. I'm not to familiar with these cars so any advise as what to look for would be appreciated.

Car is a 9B build so no X codes. It looks to be an RS: hideaways, reverse lights under the bumper, pinstripe. Also has an Endura bumper etc.

What concerns me is it has a cowl hood and my understanding is that this was a mid year deal. Should it have a flat hood?

I've been following the Z barn find thread with great interest...

TIA,

Mike

Yes No cowl hoods until Late Dec. 1968
May have an X code behind the rear seat.

If it hasn't had the tail pan replaced you can pull a back up light and see if the hole is stamped to help authenticate it's having left the factory equipped as a RS.

Pinstripes?
A RS Z28 should not have pinstripes over the wheel arches.

Thanks for the info, I was going to pull the rear seat and the tail panel check is a good idea.

I thought the Z22 option (RS) included the Z21 option which had the pinstripe? Again, I'm just trying to get educated...thanks.

I malso have a no X code car. behind the back seat it is written in grease pencil DG3 for dark green interior X33 car. darren found another car in my real close time frame that has a R1 code and the car is an X11 car with red interior so same people same shift I assume. My car is an 11D car, flat hood, endura bumper WITH the original jack and load rest. Most important thing is if the car was never fully restored it is much easier to authenticate. I am not a paper guy but if I was thinking about buying a total resto job I would need to have a truck load of paper with the car and maybe even some previous owners phone numbers.

I didn't realize it was on Ebay... Ebay Link

I'm familiar with the collection it came out of so the history back to that point is known.

Z21 included the wheel opening pin stripes on base cars X11 and X44, and was deleated or not used with Z28. As far as I know.

a few things i notice... shouldnt have the pinstripe, the shifter is wrong, should have a flat hood, two month span on the engine stamp(no picture) is a bit much. my car is two weeks. i would pull the back seat and check the bulkhead for an X-3 in crayon under the glue. check the jack to see if it has the correct load base. the undura brkt is blue and has a brkt riveted to it. certainly not an over restored car that would raise more questions(black RS-Z, fake TT) but a great start. good luck

I was told by the seller a few months ago that they found out it is not the original engine in this Z28.

-----White stripes would have been the norm on an orange 69 Z without a black vinyl top. Im pretty sure that could be over-ridden when ordered, but Steve and probably everyone else on this board can tell you for sure!......Bill S

just by pictures of the frame and fuel line it looks to be a real car to me. I also don't think the tail panel was replaced. Mike and James would be the better people to ask about that stuff. I like the non tach and non console cars. You then can put your Day-2 vintage gages and tach in it! Early cars are tougher without X codes but that is half the fun.
