Electric Water Pump

Has anyone had any luck/bad luck with the old Moroso electric motors that have a belt to turn the water pump? I am looking to run one for a street/strip application. Has anyone done this and kept the motor cool enough on the street? This car will see the street more than the track.

Arn't those pumps more for spinning the water pump in the pits between rounds with the engine off? Why do you want to do this on the street?

That's what I thought Sam!

It won't work on the street. Strip yes. Street no.

I would like to run an electric water pump, but I wanted something "Day 2." I have a brand new Meziere 55 gpm water pump, but it isn't very nostelgic looking. I figured I'd ask about the old Moroso electric motor.

So this is what you have right now, right?

Is there any reason you want to run an electric? If you want to be able to cool down at the track, you could consider a turbo after-run pump installed in a discrete way.

Then you could then have some freedom to go backto a stock looking pump. It would probably then be worth speaking to these guys: http://www.stewartcomponents.net/Mer...de=ChevyHiFlWP

Help us understand what your goals are.

Re: Electric Water Pump

I want a Day 2 looking cooling system that has the ability to cool a fairly radical 427 in a 69 Camaro. The car will see more street time than anything else. I would prefer an electric set-up if it is possible, but if not I'll have to run a mechanical pump. I wasn't born until the 1980s, so I missed this era and I don't know what all was avaliable back then.

still trying to figure out why an electric water pump. Not sure they spin fast enough to cool the engine.

I have a new polished Mezier pump like shown above, but I assume that is not very "Day 2"?!?!?

Re: Electric Water Pump

Put a stock water pump on and an old Fex-a-lite fan. Thats Day-2.
