427 cylinder head question
 

I'm building a street/strip 427, but it will see alot more street time than race time. It is a 11.5:1 compression with 304/314 .710 soild roller cam. I have a nice set of 840 heads that were ported, preped, and polished by Brandywine cylinder heads that I was going to use. They have 2.25 intake and 1.88 exhaust valves. I'm being told that the heads are too much for my application, which is shocking to me. Has anyone every used a set of race preped 840s on a street/strip motor? Would anyone have a head recommendation?

i think those heads would work great with that application. carb size and rearend ratio would also factor into how the car reacts in it's torque curve. over the counter ls6/ls7 990 head would work well also.

The car probally weights about 3200 lbs. I got a 3500rpm stall and 4.10 gears. The carb is a 850 holley body, but was modified by Avanti and flows 1110 cfm.

You will be very happy with your setup. The new trend is to go with the large oval port open chamber heads(049s are most popular) and open them up for larger valves. Better mannered for the street, especially with higher gearing(3.73 and numerically lower). Your car will run very well on the street and strip.

I have changed direction a little bit with my motor. I am thinking about running an aftermarket head. I'm looking at Brodix or RHS heads. I can get an RHS head in 320cc or a Brodix in 294cc or 312cc. All of the RHS or Brodix heads in aluminum or cast iron. Dart offers an Iron Eagle head with 308cc. Anyone have any ideas or reccomendations?

Don't count out AFR heads. They are some of the best out there also. IMO

Your best bet and $$$ spent WILL BE the RHS 320 hands down. They will work good with what you have, but can also be worked to handle anything your every planning on putting them on. There are RHS 320 run in Texas Pro Stocks on 1200+hp 565's.

Well don't believe everything these so called armchair experts say. Having actually run the L72 back in the day I can assure you that engine will run great with those heads.

Frank, what is that supposed to mean? can you please expand on what you are trying to say?
