ALUMINUM CASE T-10 CHECKING WHAT VEHICLE

Seeing if I could get some help identifing a T-10 aluminum case. Case is stamped WL2922(which is 4-speed, Dec 29th 1962, second shift) but has a partial vin of 149099. Check to see if anyone knows what kind of a car this is from and if it is worth rebuilding. Thanks for any help, Randy

What is the tail shaft casting number and is there a letter before the partial vin?

Actually "L" is November. Looks to be from an early '63 passenger car. A few plants neglected to stamp the plant letter in front of the sequence number. Does it have a front bearing retainer for a small hole bell or a large hole. Easy way to tell is if the retainer extends past the bolt heads.

Casting # for tail shaft is T10-7D 3813490 DATED 11 2 62. There wasn't a letter before the partial vin. Thanks, Randy

Thanks for the info, looks like small hole bellhousing(retainer doesn't expand past bolts) Does that put in the Impala, caprice style cars? tailshaft has bowtie on it.

That would make it for a Biscayne, Belair, Impala (1963) with a 327/300hp. I might be able to narrow down the plant if you post a photo of the partial VIN since different fonts and styles were used at various plants.

Re: ALUMINUM CASE T-10 CHECKING WHAT VEHICLE

Randy, Sometimes data falls into place very well to answer questions. I received the photos you sent and I can tell you that the front bearing retainer is the large diameter, meaning that the trans was from a 409 car using the 553 bellhousing. The VIN font is definitely from a Tarrytown built car. Tarrytown was one of the plants that tended to forget the letter code before the sequence number and also, they had a problem with the digit "1" during the '62 model year and replaced them with a "1" that was a little taller than the rest of the numerals (as yours is). Also, figuring the final production date of your car at the Tarrytown plant, it was assembled 1-2 days before the end of November, which matches the trans assembly date.
I don't know if any of this really helps you in any way, but the research is always interesting for me.

Re: ALUMINUM CASE T-10 CHECKING WHAT VEHICLE

I really apriciate all of your information and knowledge. You have really helped me out. So this is defeinety worth rebuiding.
I also have another t-10, case date # is WE74 2(4 speed may 1964)no vin stamp, same casting #s as the first trans, identical internals and retainer. Think it is a service replacement?
And again thanks for all of your time, Randy
