Cowl induction air cleaner - original or repo

Could someone show me the difference between an "original" and a "reproduction" cowl induction air cleaner? Are they the same on a camaro and on a chevelle? Is there any difference in the rubber ring on the top?

Although I have a vintage assembly line one on my 70 Chevelle right now,I don't have access to pictures of it,so I'll do the best I can.

In general, the rubber seals had cloth tape at their seam on the assembly line & OTC..todays repros are hot glued. Some are disguising with cloth tape today too.

The metal flange that holds the seal, has a flat spot @ the 9 to 11 O'clock position on the 70-72 Chevelles.
The 69 Z/28's & ZL-1's were a perfect circle flange,thus no A/C option.
Makers mark "W" stamped into originals too.

Some 69 Camaros & a few early 70 Chevelles came with a flat bottom housing. The majority 70-72 Chevelles had a valley all around em on the bottom, like todays repro. does, but they are reproducing the flat bottom housing today.

Here's a reproduction I recently sold..

Notice C H Q reproduction stamping.
PCV Vent tube isn't as curved as the originals were and doesn't come out as smooth as the 1st design assembly line did.
Also originals have a notch in their center seam on the air horn.
The rippling in the back on an original is more defined & detailed then a repro.today,as well as the whole design overall.

I hate to differ with Rick, but the 69 Camaro assembly line flange is egg shaped, not round. If you stand in front of the car, and look at the engine bay, it is round from about 11 o'clock to about 7 o'clock, with a consistent width between the inner and outer circle, but with from 7 to 11 is thinner, giving it the egg shape. This flange is being reproduced, too.

If you do a search over on Camaros.net, kevinw did a great post several years ago, on the differences, including some really good pics. There are some more subtle differences like a notch in the horn, on the originals, that are pointed out.

Oops, yes, you guys are right.I shouldn't have said perfect circle.
Just meant to infer it's more symmetrical then the A/C allowable one below.

I seen the egg shaped design is being repopped today too.

Do a search over at Team Camaro. Mark C posted up great pics and comparisons a few years back.

Thanks, Glad to see it helping out. I also did one on how to correctly install the seal to help out all those BJ cars with them upside down
