the code is W U on a 12 bolt rear end what does the code stand for, I know the dates and the shifts but not the wu code thank you

I think you need to give a little more details. All I see is W for Warren Michigan. I attached the link to 1969 Axle codes, but all other years are a click away. Maybe not a Chevelle axle? Ryan |

Not a mis-stamp. Most likely out of a 1970-72 Grand Prix or GTO. 3.31 open. They used Chevrolet 12 bolt style rear ends in 1970-1972 in the Grand Prix's or GTO's with larger cubic inch engines.
