69 GTO 3 Speed Transmission
What 3 speed did Pontiac use in the 69 GTO? Thank you in advance. Tom.

Re: 69 GTO 3 Speed Transmission
From what I found. .....they used a Dearborn M13. That was the standard manual transmission.

The GTO 3 speed manual transmission was based on a Toploader Ford unit. Here is one I recently had.

Re: 69 GTO 3 Speed Transmission
Pontiac had to buy 3-Speeds from Ford because GM hadn't any that could handle the torque.

Re: 69 GTO 3 Speed Transmission
Besides Pontiac, weren't factory 3-Spd manuals in other A-Body cars the same units?
Like the one in that orange '69 L35 Chevelle someone had here a few years ago or the '69 L78 Chevelle sold at Mo Carter's dealership that appeared here too, a yellow car I think? Merry Christmas! ~ Pete |
Re: 69 GTO 3 Speed Transmission
I realize the early BOP cars used the Ford top loader 3 spd, but did they not use the HD Muncie 3 spd in 1969 like the Chevrolet? It is a very heavy and strong full syncro 3 spd that was introduced in 1968 as the M-13 and I believe that it had a 2.41 low gear ratio.
The dirt circle racers in our area used that transmission through the 70s and 80s because it was very strong and reliable. |

In 1969 the GTO used the toploader.
