Repo subframe bushings - 69 camaro
Are there some betters than others?
I just ordered a set and they are GM restoration parts ones, the steel inserts are phosphate (I was expecting zinc) and one of the rears looked higher than its matched side - and it is by a little over an 1/8 inch in height!! Heck wont the car sit slightly tilted?? They also feel pretty firm so im not expecting any compression on them Thoughts, experiences or advise is welcomed?? |
Re: Repo subframe bushings - 69 camaro
"GM restoration" means absolutely nothing other than GM allowed use of its name and gets a percentage of the profit.
I don't know what to tell you if you are trying to find something that looks factory. I had a set of repop ones and gave them away for the same reason you don't like your set. For what it is worth, it will only throw things out of whack (highly technical term) if the upper ones are a different thickness. The lowers won't affect how the car sits. I ended up using poly just because the quality control was better and all the pieces fit well. |

Heartbeat City has a set of NOS ones for $650.00 if that makes you sleep better Fast Eddie!

Re: Repo subframe bushings - 69 camaro
good point - I did not think about the impact on the lower position #3 is where the difference is in height that im seeing...
ill have to look at the tops to check any differences Sammy, yes I might go with an nos set...I don't want to have alignment issues with a cocked up subframe :-) |
Re: Repo subframe bushings - 69 camaro
This is the point on am at, too, Eddie. I am down to soft items IE Bushings, carpet, gaskets etc..I will have to go repo(unfortunately) Can't afford NOS stuff. All the rest of car is GM (used or NOS) Kinda sucks. I am very afraid of anything that says repro or China. I do have a list I am putting together of hard items I will send out soon. Good luck with bushings and let me know who to use for my car.

Actually, if that is for a full set, including radiator support, that is probably a deal. I could not find a complete set (even at that price) when I was assembling my car, and I don't plan on ever having it judged, so I went with the poly. At least they were consistent quality. I probably would have gone NOS had I found a complete set at 650. |
Re: Repo subframe bushings - 69 camaro
A few years back, I bought what are supposed to be NOS, GM, bushings.
2 of them have part number 3953139 FK 10 molded in them. 2 of them have part number 1242754. Both sets have some GM parts stickers with them. Can you use them? |

Re: Repo subframe bushings - 69 camaro
Did you check with classic headquarters ? A lot of their parts are really nice when compared with the parts ... Or just be patient & a set will show reasonably priced ..
