Flooring

I have epoxy painted flooring in AZ and love it. It has held up well after 10 yrs. In AZ there are no worries for excess moisture in the concrete and the dry air is conducive to good epoxy adhesion. Not so much out here in OH, though. So I got to thinking about alternatives and wanted to get opinions of what has worked for you or if you have tried something similar to the Gladiator tile below what your opinion is. Price is about the same for epoxy and these tiles so that is not a factor. I will be (attempting) to place a 4 post lift in my garage so flooring able to support that is a must.

Thanks!

Re: Flooring

sam, 4 post lift or 2 post lift.....?

as u know with my 4 post lifts, they are hard to work on a car like you are used to with your 2 post lift in AZ,

Re: Flooring

Eddie,

I have resigned myself to a 4 post as I do not think I have the height (only 108") to accommodate a 2 post. I understand I will not have the workability that I enjoyed with the 2 post, but my primary mission is to store (stuff) more cars in my available storage space.

Re: Flooring

I've seen some clever floor plate 2 post lifts installs. Sone are only 9' tall. Might be more like whay you are used to. Plus you gain room since the area under the car doesn't have that lifting platform.

Paul - what do you mean by "floor plate"? Any pix?

Re: Flooring

Can you store a car up on the lift and below it safely? I was able to do this with my 2 post Rotary based on its robustness and locks. What are the concrete requirements for this type of a set up (i.e. thickness and grade of concrete)?

Re: Flooring

Typically 4" of 3000psi concrete is a minimum. Some lifts like Mohawk do everything in an overkill kind of way. You probably should see what the lifts you may consider have for recommendations.

That extended angle iron in pita2 could be added to most lift and i probably would. As long as you rest on the locks, i would store a car this way. Check min lock heights.

Cool part is you cheat space a bit cause wheels above can hang below the roof line of the car below.

Re: Flooring

Sam I checked into those tiles for my outbuilding floor where the cars are stored and was going to install them at the end of summer. It was going to cost me just over two grand to do it so I passed for now. The company that makes the tiles I looked into is Rubber Flooring Inc. out of Chandler Az. They seem to have a nice product. My friend installed their rubber roll out mat in his garage and said it worked and is holding up fine.

Another friend of mine told me that if you want something inexpensive to put down on the concrete and will look nice is to roll out a good grade grey paint primer. He did this in his shop and it has held up very well for several years..

Other people I talk to discourage you from painting the floor due to possible adhesion issues....

Hey Sam...I have Race Deck flooring and a 4 post lift and there is no problem with that set-up at all. I am adding a second 4 post lift this summer.

If you are a garage journal member, call Race Deck and tell them and they wlll give you a 10% discount and free shipping
