YS 8011 possible history
2 Attachment(s)
Rick Nelson found an old drag race pic from the North Star Dragstrtip facebook page recently started. Closest thing to my car in an old picture we have seen yet. Spoke to the owner of the Nova in the pic and he is looking for more pictures and/or info. Has a 68 Yenko hood and looks like Pontiac wheels and emblem below the fender stripe. He thinks he took in late 68, North Star was not far from Jay Kline where car was purchased. Maybe something will come of it??? I am posting the pic and a new one I took from similar angle. When I blow up his pic it looks like I can see the chrome tach through the side window.

Annnnd back in... Oh, and I forgot to mention, North Star was in Minneapolis Minnesota. Shut down years ago. And of course Russ with the Nova had to mention his little small block was out front at the start. No pic at the big end though. |
Re: YS 8011 possible history
North Star Dragstrip located just off I-35 W at 85th St. N.w. in Blaine/Circle Pines, Mn. that closed in September of 1979. Originally opened as Twin City Dragstrip in the late 1950's.
I want desperately to locate the owner/driver of this car but so far getting people to help has been nearly impossible. They are into drag cars and not historically significant muscle cars so they just don't seem interested. We will keep trying. SOMEONE has to have a photo of this car from the pit area, just need to find them. |
Re: YS 8011 possible history
I grew up about 5 miles from that drag strip, my Dad still lives there. You could see the starting line from the highway and many times we would drive through burnout smoke on the highway on weekends. The timing tower stood, sadly, for many years after it closed down.
Good luck! |
Re: YS 8011 possible history
Now there is nothing left of it, not even the overgrown strip.
