Re: L79 68 BLOCK
Wrong crank....
All Hi Perf. L79's Had a Steel Crank. Regardless of small journal or large journal. The Engine is identical to a Corvette L79 sans the bolt ons......alt., dist , carb and ram horns.etc. |
Re: L79 68 BLOCK
IMHO 68's had a large journal cast crank..My 0702 L-30 has one and it is one of the last. In fact, some were not even drilled for a balancer bolt. Mine was not... I don't believe many of the 68's were "Steel" both L-30 and L-79...It's a very different animal from the 67's ...

Re: L79 68 BLOCK
'68 L79s got a lrg journal steel crank #3914672

Re: L79 68 BLOCK
Was that the norm? I know All the L-30's were cast.
Were there ever any Tonawanda L-79's, my L-30 was built there... BIG |

Re: L79 68 BLOCK
'68 L79's Used Forged pop up /Domed 11:1 TRW/GM Pistons, therefore a Steel Crank, 8" High Performance wide balancer with a drilled nose.
64 cc Heads, Hydraulic cam with Pressed in rocker studs Passenger cars used the Log type exhaust manifolds , Corvettes the Ram manifolds. If someone here buys this Engine I have an NOS GM Balancer for it. A 8" spec-hiperf non finned balancer which is nearly identical to a '67-'68 302, Will sell this for $300 shipped |
