Red/White & Blue USA-1 plates

Here is a little education on the Red / White & Blue USA-1 plates. I always see them listed on eBay as original plates and am sure

they are...just not the "One" I was looking for. They made heavy plates and thin plates with the "small hole" for the bolts

to attach the plate to the front bumper or bracket. So....I had one of each to see what the weight difference is on them and

the earlier White and Gold USA-1 plates from the 60's. I think the dates on the production of plates of R/W&B is 76-82 and

then the "Taking Charge" was under the USA-1 after 1982.

I weighed the "Heavy" R/W&B plate which showed to be 9.1/4 OZ and then the lighter which showed to be 2.7/8 OZ. What a difference in

weight! I weighed one of the White and Gold plates which showed to be 6.1/2 OZ so is the heavy Red/White & Blue USA-1 the

heaviest plate? You can see the color difference...Green vs no color and the "Emboss" of the USA-1 is much deeper as well.

The Heavy plate is the one on top in the pictures.

I think that would be fair to say...

Yes,
Steel then aluminum.
A little timeline as I understand it:

USA-1
PUTTING YOU FIRST IN A BIG WAY
plate is Late 60's , more like '69 -'70
Is later than the USA-1 See America's First.

The USA -1, R-W-B plates in Heavy Steel came out Early to Mid 70's..then Aluminum around 74-75 ,,, I saw those style plates on the Caprice Convertibles in Chevy Showrooms....
THE Steel Plates are Dynamite in appearance.

I have a R-W-B plate given to me by a friend. This plate has long slot holes but has the dealers name (local and still in business) stamped in the plate.

the sharp edged embossed plate is an unknown one to me, early knockoff copy? not sure

not sure what years offered, but the 2nd one IS, in fact, a REAL DEAL GM offering

It had the translucent paint over the silver background
