BBC oil pan oops
I just accomplished a "test fit" of a BBC into my 71' Nova -- I have the correct BBC frame adapters and mounts on engine. The pan I have is against the relay rod/cross link of steering linkage. So the question is, what pan do I need to get? Looked up a number of pans at different web sites -- I need one for a 95% street machine. Any suggestions?

Re: BBC oil pan oops
I had the same issue with my 69 Nova. I bought/installed the correct repro oil pan. When I dropped the motor in, it was about 1/16" from the hitting the crossmember. I pulled it back out and installed an original 69 BB pan, and it had the same problem.
I looked at a several original BB Novas and couldn't figure out what the problem was. Even the original BB's had a tight fit. My solution: I ordered a spacer kit from Summit. They come in different thicknesses. These spacers go between the block and the motor mount. It didn't need much. I think it was a 1/16" spacer that lifted the whole motor about 1/4". Now I have the perfect space between the pan and crossmember, and you really can't even see the spacers. http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/da...m/100_4411.jpg |

More inof -- there is approx 1/4" clearance between the bottom of the pan and the cross member ... the problem is the steering linkage ... pan is right against it.
