I have a turbo 400. Tag reads 70-cw. 1590 and above that is 289. Only thing I could find it fits 402 and 350 in nova and camaro. I"m hoping it fits the 396 350 engine. I have a few pictures. Any help is appreciated.

Scarce trans..1970 L-78 Chevelle-Nova assembled after Oct.16th 1969.
1970 LT-1 Nova used it too,but I think your date is too early to consider it came out of one those.

Is there a con VIN# stamped into the driver side machined pad above the pan,to help determine what car it originally came in?

If it still has the original converter, it has a high stall speed. I think it's 2600rpm.

The CW coded TH400 will work fine behind the L34 motor...this a HD unit designed to work with the solid lifter big blocks. If you clean the case carefully you may find the letters CW printed in a pink color. These transmissions used the 6 lug convertor, hi-shift point governor and many other special internals.

The VIN is typically on the driver's side pan rail area...but, I have seen them on the bell housing on pass. side as well. As mentioned, given the date code, this could have only come from a Nova or Chevelle with L78.

Very cool part...good luck.
