67 Impala Valve Cover Questions
 

My 67 Impala is a factory 327/275 HP car. The original valve covers were taken off by the original owner years ago and he does not have them or remember what style they were. I want to put the original style covers back on. Were they the Chevrolet Script covers or the ones with the indentation on them in the middle where the engine displacement decal went?? My air cleaner is original and is black colored with a single snorkel and had NO engine decal on it.

If the valve cover used is the one that the engine decal goes on, is the correct decal a generic gold and black colored 327 decal minus the horsepower rating??

My 67 SS 327/275 used these covers with the 327 decal on the air cleaner and am pretty sure that was standard in 67. I believe the earlier years used the raised rectangle in the middle with the black decal. Real early ones used the Chevrolet script. Perhaps others can supply actual years for the change.

Going on the net I am seeing 1967 Impala 327's with the type I show above as well as the Chevrolet script style. Odd as I do not remember ever seeing the Chevrolet script on anything after late 66.

That's the assumption I'm under...Due to the removal of the breather in the rear of the block.

FWIW, I think the scripted covers would be correct for a 67 SBC Impala. I'm not a Impala guy, but, early cars &quot;may&quot; have used the block style 66 covers...but I doubt it. [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif[/img]

67 Camaro L30 engine. 68 was the first to use vented valve covers.

Rich. My brother Steve ' s Impala has scripted valve covers. You should give him a call. His car is a Jun 67 build. He's been told they were wrong, but his car was a survivor with 30000 miles on it when he got it.

Regarding the pictures I posted of the covers, you are correct, they should have been closed covers with no vent holes. I was more referencing the top design. Sorry for the confusion. My 67 had the same ones I pictured though without the hole. Unfortunately I do not have an assembly date.
