Chambered Exhaust

I'm looking at changing the exhaust on my Chevelle from the current aftermarket header and x pipe set up to an original style manifold/exhaust set up. I have read mixed reviews regarding chambered exhausts, some say too loud and thought I would ask for some opinions here. Chambered or the standard pipe set up for a car that gets driven maybe 15 or 20 times a year?

Re: Chambered Exhaust

Damien,

If you want the original look and original performance "Chambered" is way cool. It will definitely be louder than what you have.
It will not flow or out perform headers and an X pipe system.

I suggest you come join us at the NOCC Show in August. There will be 200 Chevelles on hand....half dozen with Chambered Exhaust, no better way to educate yourself than seeing the Chevelles in person and talking with the owners.

What do you say mate

I run chambered exhaust on my '69 and really like the sound and look.

Re: Chambered Exhaust

Damien, back in 2010 I removed my headers, H-pipe and three inch stainless pipes from my Chevelle. Went with the Gardner concours chambered system. Yes, it is expensive, but the fit, finish and appearance is dead on. You also get the correct hangers.

From a sound standpoint here is what I noticed. At idle the chambered is louder. At 50 MPH the headers were louder. I may not be the best person to ask regarding sound as I am deaf in my left ear. My car only goes out about 3 or 4 times a year so the sound is not a problem. That may be different in your situation.

Hope this helps a bit and good luck with your decision.

Re: Chambered Exhaust

Damien, I say chambered exhaust. I have a Gardner system on my 69 Chevelle 396/350 HP and I love it. It sounds awesome and is not too loud. My car is a rag top and it does not bother me with the top down. It is actually very quiet until you get to the rear of the car at the tail pipes. You can really hear the cam lope also..
