Trying to get crafty with my fuel pump install
 

My new motor needs an electric fuel pump, but I don't want to see it. I'm planning on mounting it out back by the fuel tank on the frame rail.
Right now I have a factory style fuel pump mounted on the block and here is what I'm thinking about doing...
I'd like to figure out a way to gut the fuel pump and tie the in/out fuel lines together so you can't see it. This way there is no additional plumbing involved and it will be the cleanest install IMO.
Has anyone tried this? I think the hardest part would be the crimp. Getting it open and re-crimped without denting it up. I've thought about using a ZL1 style fuel pump because they're screwed together, but I don't think that style is exactly a dime a dozen...

Why don't you just remove the fuel pump rod?

I did a little research... I should have known someone else would have already done this. Fuel from an electric fuel pump will flow through the mechanical ok. What I'm afraid of is the bladder failing and filling the crankcase with fuel. To avoid that I think I'll cut off the lever and put a good gasket between the pump and the block.

Sandwich one of those fuel pump block off plates between the pump and block -- it would take an eagle eye to notice it. TAZ

Or just tap the 2 holes in the block (fuel pump cavity) and install pipe plugs, works great!

Maybe if I have one thin enough. Now that you mention it, I think I do. Great idea.

I'm going to have to check that out. It does sound like it would work pretty slick if I can get my tap in there and also catch all the shavings. I can use some grease on the tap for that. I don't know if I can get a tap in there though. Also, I'm trying to remember what the cavity looks like in there. I seem to remember this block has a pretty wide open area that you wouldn't be able to plug. Maybe not though? Memory sucks...
